In the Name of God, Amen. The Third day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty one. I, John Snow, of Bay Roberts in the Island of Newfoundland, Planter, being of an advanced age but otherwise of perfect health and of sound mind and memory thanks be given to God, therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body, knowing that is appointed unto all men once to died, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried with decent Christian burial along with my Wife and Children, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God and as to asking such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: First, I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son, Lot Snow, that part of my property situate in Bay Roberts aforesaid consisting of Dwelling House, Plantation, and Fishing Room at present in his occupancy and bounded on the East by Isaac Mercer’s property and on the West by that part of my property in the occupancy of my Son, Abner Snow. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son, Abner Snow, that part of my property situate in Bay Roberts aforesaid consisting of Dwelling House, Plantation, and Fishing Room at present in his occupancy and bounded on the East by that part of my property in the occupancy of my Son, Lot Snow, and on the West by that part of my late property but now the property of my Grandson, John Snow (son of Abner Snow), by virtue of a Deed of Gift from me to him. Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto the aforenamed Lot Snow and Abner Snow all that Dwelling House, Outhouses, Stores, Counting house, and Shop, Wharves, and waterside premises with Gardens and Meadow Land attached thereunto situate near Snow’s Cove in Bay Roberts aforesaid, and now in the occupancy of [Mr. or W.?] Donald McLellan and bounded on the East by Thomas Carraway’s Room and on the West by Abraham French’s Room and on the North by a Garden belonging to James Carraway and on the North East by a Meadow belonging to Thomas Carraway, to be by them equally possessed and enjoyed during their natural Life. And my meaning and intention is that the same shall not be sold or otherwise disposed of by them but that it shall be left to their respective heirs & forever to remain in the possession of my Male Descendants. Fourthly, unto my well beloved Daughter, Naomi Russell, I give and bequeath the sum of Three pounds of the current money of Newfoundland to be raised and levied out of the Rent arising from that part of my property situate near Snow’s Cove and to be paid to her by the aforenamed Lot Snow and Abner Snow or their heirs and successors on the Thirty first day of December in every year during her life time. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannull all and every former testaments, Wills, legacies, bequests and executors. And I do now constitute and appoint my friend, Charles Culpin of Bay Roberts, my Executor to this my last Will and Testament, ratifying and confirming this and no other. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Hi Joan
I just read your message with all the names from Clarke's Beach and Bell Island.I have a Lloyd Snow born in 1922 at Clarke's Beach married Jean Bennett born Aug 1,1921 on Bell Island.Would you have anything on this couple or their parents? Thanks for posting all that information,I'm sure it will be a great help to others that are researching that surname.

Take care.

Hi Joan, I was so happy to see information here about the Snow family. My grandmother is a half sister to Florence Snow, born March 1, 1887 parents were William and Alice Bray Snow. I have been trying to find out what happened to Florence, it seems no one in the family even knew of her at all...funny it seems a lot of the old stories passed down aren't always very accurate! My grandmother Ethel Lockyer Moran, died in 1974 and I would love to know if Florence stayed in NFLD or came to America...Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I would love to hear from anyone who is a Lockyer or Bray from Bay de Verde or Harbour Grace area...Nancy Moran Tracy Museumnancy@rcn.com

Hi I see you have alot of Snow's, is any of them from Coley's Point and/or Clarkes Beach. As I have 2 greatgrandmother's with the maiden name Snow. The one from Clarkes Beach is Sarah (Snow) Pottle, The other was born in Coley's Point but live in Country Path(now known as Country Road) her name is Jane (Snow) Mercer.

Hi, I am also looking for information on the Snow families of Bay Roberts. I am in partular looking for an Elizabeth Snow born probably mid to late 1840's and married a Thomas Perin (Perrin) about 1870. From 1870 to at least 1884 they lived on Country Path but by 1904 they had relocated to St John's. While in Bay Roberts they had the following children..
Thomas Perrin May 17, 1872 - <1884
Jane Moriah Perin 1876 - Apr 10, 1950
William George Perin Jul 17, 1876 - Oct 1881
Clara Daw Perin Jul 24, 1878
Thomas Perin Feb 1884

It is quite possible that Elizabeth Snow had a sister named Frances Snow who married Esau Mercer on Nov 12, 1873 at Bay Roberts. Frances' residence was listed as Northern River but I am not sure where that is. Elizabeth was recorded as a witness at the wedding.

Regards
Ed Barbour
