Hi. Saw your message. How does Thomas Priest connect with Betsey Withers Winn? I'm researching her family and have photographs (and a painting) of her family home, Rock Hill, in The Plains, VA. --- Pat West

My line goes back:
Ruth Arlene Ryan m. David Kirk West III (my mother)
Albert Jesse Ryan m. Mary Carolyn Patton (my grandfather)
Samuel Enoch Ryan m. Roberta Virginia Pulliam
James A. Ryan m. Elizabeth Ann Woodard
Daniel Ryan m. Agnes Singleton
Nancy Withers Winn (Agnes' mother) m. Joshua Singleton
Minor Winn m. Elizabeth "Betsey" Withers

According to the land deed

Betsey Withers Winn was the granddaughter of Thomas Priest.

Thomas Priest's will probated 1827, named daughter Jemima Winn.

Jemima Winn married in Fauquier Co. VA on 13 Nov 1804 to John W. Winn.

I am not studying the surname Priest, just have bits and pieces on that name in my PAF program.

I have a about twenty Withers posted in my PAF program, just being allied families of my direct line.

I have the surname WINN in connection with my Fortune family back in very early Caroline Co. VA . I do not know if there is a connection or not.

Only two Singleton in my PAF program:

Minor Singleton married to Ann Barbee

Robert Singleton married to Jane S. Carr

both female families had lots of land and slaves, you should be able to find information about all three surnames in the original records.

Good luck with your research.

Also believe there was a connection with members of the Rust family of Westmoreland/Fauquier/Frederick/Shenandoah counties of VA and the Singleton family. Because Rust family members used as their middle name Singleton.

My line of Rust left Westmoreland Co. VA for Granville Co. NC, but members of the same family inter-married with members of my MacKay/McKay family of Warren Co. VA.
