I just found my grandfather in the newly released 1940 census for California as a patient at the Camarillo State Hospital. This was a shock, but then I do not know much about my family. If anyone has heard of him or has any info, I'd be grateful.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I do have that information. I think I pretty much exhausted everything I can find on Ancestry, but discovering the 1940 census entry for my grandfather, Verne Dove, really threw me. Trying to get a handle on a family that I wasn't able to be very close to and wondering why he was a patient at Camarillo.

Not sure which is correct or if they charge for the records.
