Finding Jewish Records for Croatia

Hello!

I am researching my mother's maternal line in Yugoslavia but have run into a considerable obstacle. My grandmother told me how her mother's family (last names Legan/Sivak)always used to go to Zagreb for services, however, when I began researching Jewish records in the city I was devastated to discover that the synagogue was completely destroyed in World War II. Does anyone have suggestions on where to go from here?? I feel as if we can move no further and it's very disheartening. Thank you!

Her maternal surname was Sivak, paternal was Legan and married name was Uhr.

There is an expert on Croatian research who often provides help on these forums.

You can also try www.jewishgen.org
On their Jewishgen Family Finder you can see a researcher in Arizona with family Sivak from Croatia. There is an e-mail address for this researcher.

Hi Lisa. Wondering if you had any luck of finding anything on Sivak in Zagreb? My family tree is Sivak and they all lived quite close to Zagreb but there is no Jewish connection. I didn't think that Sivak was a common name in Croatia/Yugoslavia
