Anyone know where the Mound District aka The Mound was located in Ventura? I'm researching the Harkey family who ranched there: James S. Harkey and son George Wilson Harkey. G.W. Harkey later moved to Santa Clara St. in Ventura. Would appreciate help, thank you.

Kind of North / East of downtown. Poli St.--- Buena High, area along hwy 126 out of town. Ask Google Earth. I lived in the area for 48 years but it has been awhile. I was in Port Hueneme.
James Sydney Harkey and his wife Mary Ann Petray are buried in Ivy Lawn Cemetery basically close to and across the street from the cemetery office. Big stone. My parents also Harkey are also in that Cemetery . We are very distant cousins proven by Ydna testing.
You know thay were up North in CA for awhile before coming to Ventura Co. was in Mendocino Twp. July 19, 1860 for the census. Married in Pope Co AR. 1855 Which child is your ancestor Laura, Thomas , George, Mary or Frances? I would love to know more about these .

Thanks for the reply. I'm a descendant of James Harkey's sister, Eliza Lavina Harkey Mendenhall. You and I have corresponded before I believe! I live in Ventura now too, I'm still getting to know the "lay of the land". My Great Grandfather Mendenhall wrote home to Arkansas about the death of his Uncle James Harkey. I thought I should do a little more work on this Harkey family since I'm in the area. I have been to Ivy Lawn Cemetery and seen the markers. I'm wondering about that since some of the Harkey obits state they were buried in Santa Paula...perhaps they were moved later? I'll put up what I find on our website: www.bishir.org/gen ~Carley Bisher Worth ~ email: carleyworth@ucla.edu
