Wow! I got my information by word of mouth from a 78 year old woman. I have been having problems with this line ever since. Not being able to verify anything has worked on my mind. I have NEVER gotten a response when I listed it with Harrison KING, you have given me a goldmine of information that hopefully will lead me to their parents. I thank you for all your hard work putting this together and now I'm off to transpose it to my tree. I also thank you for letting me know why I had so many gaps in 1890, I didn't know about the fire in 1921.

Again I thank you for sharing your hard work on my Kings and Youngs. But I'm confused. I am a self taught idiot when it comes to my family tree. I learned by doing, I've never taken any kind of class to show me the ropes, I just tied my own knots and kept going. Luck played a big part on several branches- like going to a graveyard Just when the preacher happened to be there and he pleasantly asked who we were looking for- when I said the name he told me I needed to talk to Claude. An unofficial adopted grandson of that tree limb. Claude came over and gave us a tour of his family's part of the graveyard. I was enchanted with stories of "grandpa, ma & pa" and this is how I've worked for close to 15 years. On foot in the dirt, or cross eyed looking at microfilm to find births, deaths, wills, land plats,I've written leters to TOTAL strangers who are convinced there is a crazy woman in SC who has their address. I have enjoyed every minute. Now I'm back in the 1800's and things aren't any easier. I can't afford to get hard copy of records from LDS to continue my main line and have been trying to fill in the rest of the branches on my other 7 lines I'm researching.Your report is very detailed, it shows me you are lots more experienced than I am. After studying it I figured out the flow. Then I got lost.
Please help me understand what I'm reading:
Under
W. Oscar Young
listed at end is
Mary Sloan Young
b. 20 April 1872
d. 9 Nov 1942
is she a daughter/DIL who is she?
I think Sloan might be maiden name-right?

Further down below him:
Who is Emma & TJ Fowler and what do they have to do with this part of my tree?
I have Fowler's inter-married with the Simmons branch I'm working on but have no reference to them or their children.
What did I miss?

1880 census:
David & Rosa King
their son Harrison is listed as b. 1867
the one your previous info stated Harrison was born 1869. I know dates can vary 1-2 yrs either side until I get a definite date, but I have to ask because this line was based on my original dates that were off, and left me stuck.
If THIS is MY Harrison King- his parentage would change from William & Louisa Harrison??????? Louisa's grand daughter has the same name and she is who gave me what information I have on the Kings.

1900 census:
Austin W. & Mary Young
family is listed-
to the side of Austin is ? Oscar w/w Oscar Young b. 1869 SC
>>>>>I'm sooo lost now. <<<<<<

1900 census:

Manning Edge & sister? Lona Edge listed living with family named Spillers.
Is that right? Should I add the Spillers on my tree as and unofficial relative?

I know the only stupid question is the one not asked, but I feel awful stupid right now. Please explain how to read this info correctly. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of most of these documents, you handed me something I don't understand. Almost as bad as having to go from a right footed explorer to an armchair investigator since my arthritis kicked me off my feet.

Please don't take any of this as an insult on your hard work-I really want to learn how to read this right.

Karen, I certainly do not consider you being an "idiot" regarding your family research and asking questions.

Set up a free account with the FamilySearch website has great records which is where I found the death records and census.

https://www.familysearch.org/

1. Harrison King born about 1867 was son of David King and Rosa "Casselberry" they are listed in 1880 census in Youngs, Laurens county along with the family of James Young and Rebecca Green Young who had a daughter named Esther Young that matches Esther King.

Harrison and Esther named their 3rd child David King born abt 1895 who was listed as Daisy in 1900 census and David in 1910 census.

They did not live very far from each other as the Kings' are on page 280D and the Youngs' on page 282D. I am making a strong assumption that they were the right families based on death records from Greenville county.

2. Theola King was the 4th child of Harrison King and Esther Young.

She was listed as still being single in the 1930 census living with brother Harrison King and three King's listed as their nephews Robert born abt 1922, Alvin born abt 1925 and Jasper born abt 1927.

Unknown if Theola was their mother and the children born out of wedlock or they were sons of another of the King brothers. When Theola died in Spartanburg Co 1935 she was married to Manning Edge. That is as far as I would document regarding Theola King and her spouse.

I only found the 1910 census for Manning Edge living in Fairview, Greenville county living with a Spillers' family listed as a nephew. Unknown if he was nephew of John A Spillers or wife Addie. I did find a death record for one of John A Spillers children which says Addie's maiden name was Riddle.

3. W. Oscar Young wife named Mary Sloan who was born 1872 listed as age 28 in 1900 census.

I think he was the misnamed Austin W Young listed in 1900 census in Greenville county son of James Young and Rebecca Green found in Laurens Co 1880 census with sister named Esther Young who matches your Esther King and sister Emma Lillie Young born about 1875. Emma Young died as a Fowler 23 Nov 1941 in Simpsonville year of birth listed as 1872 and age 5 on the 1880 census.

Give Up? NEVER!
I get such a thrill when I am able to confirm family stories into tree fact. I was able to record stories from the last living members of my SIMMONS line before they died. I have pages of notes from my MIL and her late sisters that sent me on my way. Having access to the census on line has made a 30 mile trip to the closest Geneaology room at the main library unneeded except when I want to go get hard copies. I tried to organize my hard copies years ago into Notebooks for my 4 main lines- they've grown into 9 notebooks and counting! I finally found my call in life and feel like these people are still alive to me when I find out their occupations, were they soldiers? How many children did they cry over as they had to bury them. I can't let them down by letting them be forgotten. My MIL looks forward to me telling her about my newest find on her line- this weeks story is going to be a doozy thanks to you. My husband was amazed when I was able to prove a family story that he was desended from Scots- he is a direct line desendant to William Lawson a Scotish rebel that was exiled to the colonies and indentured, thankfully he wasn't executed for treason like a lot were.My husband told me how when he was little, his father would hook the mule"Babe" to the plow and would be singing in his Welsh harmony as he plowed their 2 acre garden. I wish there were a place to post "stories" "memories" like I have documented. Surely others have collections of them too.
When my daddy died I worked through the first raw grief by writing and posting 2 of my memories to his profile. I guess that's what I need to do for the rest of my collection, I just think more people would enjoy them.
I you want to read my dad's memoried It's on Ancestry.com, Nuts on The Tree of my Life, Francis Marion Lindler Jr.
His line I found Before the internet, just the last name came from the internet.I am a direct line descendant to Gotteleb Lindler from Germany. Sadly my trees are having what I call meltdowns and splitting and making 3-4 copies of people then wiping out 3-4 generations of work.
I am Karen Mari'Beth (from mom & dad's names) Lindler Simmons....and I'm real happy to meet cha!
