EmiHamn lookup - Ingel Jonsson

I'm wondering if my gt-gt-grandfather might be in this database.
Ingel was from Jamtland and was born 8 Jan 1835. He supposedly left Sweden on 30 March 1889 with his wife Brita, three sons, and two daughters, and came to Minnesota via Canada.

Thank you for any help!

Yes, that's the family! Thank you very much Sigrid!!

It's very exciting as this is the first time I've seen the birthdates for the five children.

I'm wondering, does this tell us which port they sailed from?

I saw your reply re the EmiHamn lookup. I am looking for info on Augusta Bengtsdotter. I found some info on Ancestry (see below), but I was hoping the actual database might have more info.

Name: Augusta Bengtsdotter
Birth Year: abt 1869
Gender: Kvinna (Female)
Place of Origin: Askome, Halland Län, Sverige
Destination: Two Harbors, Minnesota
Record Date: 24 O5 1889
Port of Departure: Göteborg
Database Name: EmiHamn
Archive Call Number: 39:146:27621
Principal Person: Bengtsdotter Augusta

If you have access to EmiHamn, could you do a lookup for me? I would appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,

Cheryll

Thanks for checking. I think the first Augusta, born 18 Jul 1868, from Laholms landsförs, Hallands län, is the right one, but I'm not sure.
Augusta's obituary says Augusta (Bengtsson) Sokness, 74,was born June 16, 1868, in Sweden, came to Two Harbors in 1888. I'm reasonably sure that the EmiHamn info was correct because it said her destination was Two Harbors, Minnesota. The dates are a little off. EmiHamn said she emigrated 24 May 1889; the Emibas said 5 Apr 1889. But these dates are only a couple weeks apart. Her obit said she was born 16 Jun 1868; Emibas said 18 Jul 1868. Again not a great disparity. EmiHamn said her point of origin was Askome, Halland Län, but Emibas said she was from from Mellby No 10, Laholms landsförs, Hallands län, but were these places where she was born or where she was living when she emigrated? Are these places close to each other?
I know Augusta had a brother Otto (b abt 1871) who said he immigrated in 1889 also. Could they have left together? Do you have anything like a census that would give her parents and siblings? or a passenger list that might show her and/or brother Otto? There might even have been another brother Anders (b abt 1881) who emigrated later.
Augusta has been a real brick wall for me. All references to her said her name was Bengtsson, so that was what I was searching on. I didn't hit pay dirt until I though to try Bengtsdotter.

Hi, I have only just concluded some research in the parish of Askome and I believe I have some data for you:

Your Augusta Bengtsdotter (Bengtsson) was actually born 1868 in the parish of Vessige (which is located next to Askome). She migrated in 1889. Her parents were crofter/worker Bengt Johan Andersson (1844–1889) and his wife Hedvig Josefina Olofsdotter (1845–1918). Augusta's known siblings (all born in Askome) were:

* Otto Bengtsson (b 1871, migrated in 1891)
* Carl Henning Bengtsson (b 1873)
* Anders (b & d 1878)
* Anders Olander Bengtsson (b 1882, working as a farmhand in Askome according to the 1900 Swedish census)
* Hulda Christina Bengtsdotter (1884–1943), married in 1916 to Carl Ludvig Jensen (1881–1938, born in Denmark). They lived and died in the parish of Ullared, only some 10 miles north of Askome.

Due to the rather poor quality of the church records locally in Askome and Vessige, there is sadly at this moment no telling where/when Augusta’s father was born. He died from drowning while log-driving through the fierce rapids in the nearby river of Ätran. Her mother however was born at Askome #4 Vrågård, daughter of farmer Olof Andersson (1814–69) and his wife Helena Beata Olofsdotter (1818–1907).

First the family from late in 1868 up until 1881 rented a small crofters house on the premises of Vrågård, but by then they had bought a small piece of land in Myckhult (still in Askome parish) where they lived as farmers until the drowning accident in 1889. After that the rest of her family returned to the cottage at Vrågård. Hedvig Josefina died there.
