Surnames: Young, Schmidt
ive been researching my mother side of the family and i ran into a big road block. My grandfather was born out of wed-lock, but was given his fathers last name. His mother never changed her name. The big issue im coming across is i cant find anything on his mother and only an obituary on my G-father. Does anyone have any suggestions for searching?

the info i do have is this:
Eugene Young sr. B. July 13, 1920 D. Aug. 31, 2003
his mother was(as confirmed in the family bible):
Lillian Schmidt B. ? D. 1924-1925 (only know that she died when he was 4)

What exactly is it that you are looking for?

A death certificate should have the names of parents, etc. Have you tried to get a copy?

All you need to do is go the website for the state of death and there you will find instructions on what you need to get a copy.

Do be aware that this information is only as good as the informant so there can be errors.

You could also try the funeral home that took care of the burial. Since they are responsible for submitting information for obituaries and death certificates they may also have this information.

Good Luck in your research.

Sincerely,

jasche

I do not find Eugene in 1940 census. He is living with his grandfather "Louis Schmitt" in Baltimore in 1930 census who had no daughter who went by the name of Lillian. Schmitt does not seem to be a French name but of German origin.

Louis Scmitt/Schmidt's wife was named Mary and she was born in Pennsylvania. She also died before 1930. Keep in mind obituaries can have wrong information.

Louis' and Mary's daughters were:
Annie M Schmitt/Schmidt born MD abt 1900,
Louise M in France 02 March 1902 married Clayton Shue.
Mary born in France about 1903, - this daughter not in the 1920 household
Elizabeth born in MD abt 1905
and Margaret born MD abt 1907 who was not in the 1920 census then a brother Gerard J Schmitt born in MD 22 Feb 1914 who died in Baltimore Sept 1983.

There also a cousin of Eugene's named Louis Hoffman born MD abt 1917 whose mother was one of the sisters born in France and I don't think he was Louise's son. I think Louis's mother was Mary Schmitt. The 1930 census says mother of Eugene was born in MD so I'm thinking it was Annie M Schmitt who was Eugene's mother. Louis Hoffman not found after 1920 census.

Sorry, have no clue who father of Eugene Young was.
