In the 1910 U.S. Census Column 30 asks "whether a survivor of Union or Confederate Army or Navy?" What does the code "8" mean? Also in Column 31 it asks "whether blind (both eyes)?" What does the code "6" mean?

You can't believe how many people I have asked and NO ONE can tell me. So thanks for any help that anyone can give me!!!!

I found one possible answer for the 1910 Census Code at
National Archives and Records Administration website -
http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/cenclues.html

Looks like it was not related to what the columns indicated.

The link above did not work for me.

This link explains what info should be contained in columns 30-32 on the 1910 Census. Quite often those numbers were not answers for columns 30-32 but were data summaries used by census tabulators to compile statistical data.
