Surnames: Beaver, Tincher, Powell, Pence, Bailey, Smith
Birth of baby girl in West Virginia. Birth believed to be 28 JAN 1914. Baby was given to a childless couple, Landon and Inez ( Powell) Beaver, soon after birth.
No records at W Va. Child Home Society. No birth certificate until amended birth certificate filed 1950's..
Landon born 1888 d. 1939. Inez b. 1894 d. 1929.
Neighbors in 1920 were a W.C. and Paulina ( Cart ) Smith at Kanawha City.
Story is that this couple " Uncle Doc" and " Aunt Liney" brought the child from the Union Mission, Humane Society, when she was left by her mother due fathers illness. When mother came back child had been given to Beavers.
Baby's father supposed to have came to Kanawha to work , got terribly ill , flu?, mother came from outside county and left child until father well or died. Mother found that family went to a Mission Hollow Church and came there to get her baby, but was rebuffed, and child spirited away.
All of these families moved between Roane, Kanawha and other counties.
Does a Mission Hollow church at Elk River or Charleston ring a bell? Minister for all of these families marriages was a J.C. Smith, 1900-1920's, at Kanawha City.
Thank you for your help.
