A belated thank you for the information...Mabel and her parents are my family...
I'd never heard anything about a liquor licence before your post, & so was not sure you found the William Boyd I was looking for. But recently ran across an unlabeled, undated photo of Wm Boyd and waitresses/staff in front of "Emerick Cafe" "Breakfast and Lunch." Your information helps place him in time, but now I wonder where the cafe was...any ideas?
Thanks again for your time.

Re: Will do lookups - 110 Years with Josephine, The History of Josephine County, Oregon, 1856-1966
I have the book"Josephine County Historical highlights" vol 1 by Edna May Hill it states: William B. Hay was born in 1805 in Lee County Virginia. He married Mary Elizabeth Sandsbury in October 1822. Their children were; Jarvis and Jeremiah(Jerry) twin sons born Aug 4,1838; James Willis(Willie),a son born July 10,1842 and a daughter Elizabeth. If you want the entire article let me know and I will copy and snail mail it to you. They are in the 1860 census. Jarvis is in the 1870 census I see hay and Hays in the 1900 census. Marriages in Josephine county:
James Jarvis married Martha J. Brown oct 23,1860 page 29
vol 1 Josephine county marriage book. Elizabeth Hay married Joseph Brown march 11 1858 vol 1 page 11 Josephine county marriage book.
William B.Hay took out a donation land claim in Josephine county it says B. 1805 Lee Co Va. arr in Oregon 1 sept 1854; SC 10 Nov/ 1 Dec 1854 M. Elizabeth Sandburg, Oct 1833/5, Laurel Co. Ky.
The indian battle of Fort Hay was documented in the book"indian Wars Of The Rogue River". I will copy and send that to you snail mail if you have not seen it. Hope some of this is helpful. Sally
