Looking for obituary for Lars Henry Outzen of Richfield, Utah. Died in 1920 while in St. Louis, but surely there was an obituary in Utah-have not been able to find one.

I could not find any obit but you might call a local library in Richfield or Sevier County to see if they could look up with the death date to see if there was an obit.

This is not my family. I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for your information. I recently found a copy of the death certificate, which indicated that the death occurred in Chicago, rather than St. Louis as I had seen elsewhere. However, I assume that any obit would have been in his home state of Utah. Lars was quite a prominent citizen, so I will try your suggestion of the library. Thanks again!

Thanks for sending the Illinois Sec of State link. However, clicking on the link does not work for me, nor does copying and pasting or typing it myself.

I do have a copy of the death certificate that I found in my research, so perhaps the Illiois site wouldn't have anything further anyway. The reason I am especially interested in having an obituary is that I am curious why some sources say he died in St. Louis, MO, even though the death certificate is clearly from a physician attending him in Chicago. Also, I am trying to figure out whether or not he remained committed to the LDS church, as I had heard that he had a falling out with them. Just trying to fill in some blanks and solve a mystery or two! Thanks again.

Are you still looking for his obit? I found a very brief one in the Salt Lake Telegram.

Thanks - I would like to see the obit you found. Can you tell me how to get to it? I've tried the databases my library owns, but have not located it. Thanks.

It's a subscription newspaper database and ancestry.com will not let me cite it. :(

BUT If you google historic newspapers, it's the tenth one.

There are over 900 references to Outzen in the database (but, of course, they might not all be related.)

The obit text is:

FORMER MAYOR OF RICHFIELD IS DEATH
Special Dispatch
Richfield, April 21 -- Lars H. Outzen, who served two terms as mayor here, is dead. His death followed an operation in Chicago last Thursday, according to information received by his family. Mr. Outzen was a native of Denmark and 64 years old. Many of Richfield's most helpful statutes were invoked through his instrumentality.

Thanks a bunch! I will try the google strategy. My library has some good subscriptions, but I don't recall seeing this newspaper item before, and I've never done a google search using "historic newspapers," so who knows what may surface.
Just curious - are you related somehow, or how did you happen upon my query? Thanks again!

Nope -- not related. I had just posted this at the same board:
Free online "History of Beaver County, Utah" 1856-1947

and I saw your post. I just try to answer messages when I can.
