Dear One And All,
I wonder if I might inquire as to when we can expect Ancestry.com to be in compliance with the new law in Ontario which prohibits automatic internet billings of accounts to consumers here?
Sincerely,
Mr. David Oltmann

Probably never, since they are not a Canadian company.

Dear Charley,
You can probably find it at
http://www.gov.on.ca/MBS/english/index.html
as they usually get around to posting such blarney somewhere there or at least a synopsis of it.
Sincerely,
Mr. David Oltmann

Dear Charley et al,
It would be interesting to know whether Ancestry.com is going to bill customers in Ontario contrary to this law (ie. inflict the laws of Utah upon the people of Ontario)
Sincerely,
Mr. David Oltmann

Nothing will change. You deal with a U.S. company, you play by U.S. rules. When you travel to the U.S., do you bring your Canadian laws with you and ignore ours?

David,
I am pretty sure your Canadian bank or credit card company will honor Canadian law for disputed charges.

However, when you subscribe to Ancestry you agree to their terms - including automatic renewal. You can't very well dispute that to which you have already agreed ... except by not subscribing in the first place.

I believe that if a US business operates in a foreign country, it must follow the laws of that country.
