I am a member of the Stith family and have researched this line. The first American Stith I found was John. He came to America from England to Virginia, abt. 1656. There are many descendants of this family. Some move to Hardin County, Kentucky and had very large plantions there. This is were I got confused, my line married into the Hardaway line and became very intermarried. Also the names were repeated a lot. I have found conflecting information and many lines of the Stith family do to the names being so often used. From Kentucky they moved on to Jasper county, Missouri. If you would like to contact me Please do so, and I will share what information I have. My email adderss is

Our family name is Parham. Elizabeth Stith son of Maj. John Stith and she married Richard Parham about 1730-40 in Virginia. Richard, Elizabeth and Maj Stith ran to Georgia after Maj Stith escaped from a British prison. Richard left them in warrenton, rejoined the Georgia 3rd. Batt of the Continental Army and returned to virginia and was killed in 1783. I cannot verify anything except Elizabeth was in Georgia and Maj Stith died in Warren County Georgia in 1830. Does anyone have any knowledge of any of these people? Thanks, I am against a brick wall...

A am not real sure just how you are related. I can tell you that the Stith's owned slaves. Some of the Stith's moved to Kentucky and had very large plantations. It might be that you aree related to one of their slaves.

My father Russell Edward Stith was born in 1898 in Blackstone, Va or some where in that close vicinity. His brothers were Richard, Joseph,Gilbert and William, Some brothers had a last name of Walker. One of his sisters name was Helen who married a Lyons and lived in the Washington DC area. I do know my uncle Gilbert moved his family to New York. Its sad that back in the 30's and 40's families didn't visit one another so that their children could learn about their heritage.
Should you have new information on my connection I would appreciate your help.
Thank you, John
