I found your posting while searching my family tree. My Great Grandmother (mother's side) was married to Ira Bert Wirick, born 23 January, 1879 somewhere in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. I died June 13, 1937 in Paint Borough, Somerset County, PA although the address may be listed as Scalp Level, Cambria County, PA (these towns are 1 mile apart, if that.). There is some confusion regarding my Great Grandfather "Bert" as it appears he was married prior to marrying my Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Faust in 1905. (They had 6 children, my Gandmother was M. Grace). The name of Julianne Helman appears with him. Julianne Helman died in October 1931.

I have been unable to trace this line any further than "Bert", but perhaps this may help you in your search.

Thank you for your excellent web site. It helped me immensely once I uncovered my Heller Shaffer roots.

I looked up Scalp Level on the Cambria County site and it is in Cambria County.

We share a lot of the same surnames but I haven't found a connection as yet.(eg., Shaffer, Helman, Faust, Wirick, Faust, Seese)

Hi Al,
I believe we may be looking for the same family line. My uncle was Charles Dean Wirick married to Helen Wysel (my dads sister). Uncle Deans father was John Wirick married to Harriet Chappel and John Wirick's parents were Jacob A. Wirick and Mary Seese. Does this look like the same family? I just got started on this branch but do have an obit for John and 2 of his son's, William and Dean.

My Wirick connection is sort of stub ended since Jacob B. Wirick 1868-1958 who married my grandaunt Annie Heller (1867-1946) left no descendents. The Hellers on the other hand have Seese ancestors- Sarah Seese (1824-1877)(Daugher of Melchoir Seese Jr.).

Al, we're related... Sarah Seese is the wife of my 1st cousin 6 times removed, Andrew Shaffer (1815 - 1895).

Please, email !

Oh, I forgot to mention, we're related through Jacob P. Wirick (I show him as 'P' not 'B'), as he's my 2nd great grand uncle.

Write, would like to know how we're related.

I think I may have a connection to this Wirick family. I just found an obituary for Albert Lewis Wirick, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wirick of South Fork, PA. (According to the 1900 Cambria County Census, Albert's mother's name was Mary). His siblings were James, Samuel, Earl, Jordan, William, John, Amanda, and Elda, all of South Fork.

Albert was born about 1880 and died Oct. 23, 1909 in an accident at the Cambria Steel Company in Johnstown. His widow was Leona Mitchell Wirick, a relative of mine on my Sprowl side. They had 5 children, but only 3 were living at the time of Albert's death in 1909. Albert is buried in the South Fork Cemetery.

Leona moved to Lakemont in Blair County after Albert's death. She never remarried, but she suffered the loss of another of her children. The 2 remaining children who grew to adulthood were Weldon Wirick and Norman Wirick.

I'd like to learn more about Albert and Leona and the other children who died young. Any connections?

Hi Valarie,
We have a match alright. I found a website with some info on this familyline but not much. I have info back to Frederich Wirich, 1803 in Bedford and wife Margaret Ripple. I will share what I have. Contact me at my E-mail.
