I am trying to locate the burial of my great aunt (Julia Timmermeyer, birth name) and give name was Sr. Mary Romaine, OSF. She fell ill in Parkston, SD in 1936 and passed away from appendicitis, but no listing of burial or any other information for that matter.
How could I locate the information?

Hi,

You ask about locating the burial of your great aunt (Julia Timmermeyer, birth name) and given name was Sr. Mary Romaine, OSF. She fell ill in Parkston, SD in 1936 and passed away from appendicitis, but no listing of burial.

I believe Parkston, SD is in the RC Diocese of Sioux Falls. The Catholic church there is the Sacred Heart. You could contact the Parish Priest to see if her death is recorded in a death or buriual register (Liber Defunctorum). This is not an essential sacramental register; some parishes keep them carefully but others may not keep them constantly. You could write to

The Parish Priest
Sacred Heart
PO Box 460
Parkston, SD 57366-0460

or try one of -

Business: (605) 928-3676
Email: sacredheart@santel.net
Fax: (605) 928-3862

If a Liber Defunctorum was maintained then the Parish Priest may be able to provide the details you seek.

There is no Franciscan convent in the city today but the Sioux Falls Diocese web site (http://www.sfcatholic.org/Default.aspx ) lists just one Franciscan convent -

Our Lady of Guadalupe Convent
Franciscan Sisters
1417 West Ash Ave.
Mitchell, SD 57301
Phone: (605) 996-1410
Email: sistersofsaintfrancis@mit.midco.net

Some convents are part of an order with a central archivist, whilst others are independent, autonomous houses. This convent may be able to suggest whom to contact for further information.

Hope this helps

Good evening,

Thank you for your suggestions. That is more information that I did not have =)
I have emailed them and will try to contact the numbers next week. Hopefully someone there will be able to direct me in the right direction.
