Hi! I need to see if any one out there can help me. I am searching for my great great grandma and ggg grandma names.
Charles Jones b.1750? Va. came thru NC and had land on Buckhorn Creek in Cumberland/Wake/Chatham County on the Cape Fear River where these 3 counties met at a point. He eventually migrated on to Montgomery County and settled at Badin which is now Stanly County, NC around 1780. He had sons Mark, Allen, and William and daughter Mary and other children who remained unknown at this time. William was my gg grandfather. William was beleived to have been married to a Mary (MOSS OR WOMACK); William's children were Martha, Nancy(m.Westley Tolbert, Talbert?), Mary Ann Jones(m.James Fields?), Robert Mark Jones(m.Earpy Ivey), Crissy Jones(m.Eli Lowry), Sarah(Sally)(m.Eldridge Hall), Allen W. Jones(m. Velina Brooks), Jane Jones(m.Allen Jones), James Jones, Elizabeth Jones(m. Horace Fields) and Baldwin Henderson Jones(m.Sarah Elizabeth Ann Ragland). Baldwin Henderson Jones or "Baldy" was my great grandfather born 1827 d/1902 Moore County, NC.
Baldwin Jones children were Allen Jones, Robert Henderson Jones, William Thomas Jones(m.Emily Adams Pate), Sarah Anna Jones(m.Joseph Carr Rosser), James Fletcher Jones, Mary Etta Jones(m. John Rosser) and Junius Culbreth Jones b.1872 (m. Ila Hunter, Cornelia Myrtle Yarborough).
Junius Culbreth Jones was my granddad. Mr. June was what he went by most of the time. He had a lead part in establishing the County Of Lee here in the heart of North Carolina and was a well known merchant in community of Broadway. His children were Erwin Culbreth Jones(B.1902)
Wade Branton Jones(b. 1905), Mamie Lee Jones 1909, Ethel Elizabeth Jones 1914, Junius Culbreth Jones or "J.C." 1918,
James William Jones 1920, and Edwin Stanfield Jones 1927.
My Dad J.C. Jones, Jr. is my quest! He died when I was a young child so I never was able to find out much about the Jones family. I have searched the family history on both sides and now have hit a brick wall. I beleive that if I can find out the names of the wives to William Jones (b. 1780) and Charles Jones b.1750, that it may answer my quest. I have looked and researched every possiblility and cannot find a clue to where the name Junius Culbreth came from. It had to be on the maternal side of William or Charles Jones. Also, my great grandfathers name is haunting me as well. Baldwin Henderson Jones is a strange name as well because there are no traces of Baldwins or Hendersons found in the lines I have traced.
If anyone has any info that might give me a lead, please let me know. This brick wall has not moved for the last 12mo. and I am about to give up on this quest! It is really been a let down that I cannot find anything to back this up. I have looked thru Henderson, Baldwin and Culbreth websites and also family books hoping to find a clue but to no avail. My aunt also told me that the family Partin was in there somewhere but again, I keep getting deadends. One more clue in the research papers I have is the mention that William Jones and his son James Jones died on the same day in 1847. It stated that Mary, Williams wife, died in 1846. However, it does not state where they died. Montgomery and Stanly and Moore County had courthouse fires that lost most of everything back in the 1800's so it has been very difficult to find any thing in court documents to back anything up. Fortunately, thru another researcher who contacted one of my cousins on the internet, told of a research paper she had found in the Stanly County library and also a estate on Mark Jones who died in 1858. In these papers is where alot of the above info came from that is actually court documented so at least what I have above is fairly accurate.
Again, if ANYONE has any info on this family, please let me know. I would be very gratefull!!!!!!!
Thanks again! Charlotte Jones HarringtonHi! I need to see if any one out there can help me. I am searching for my great great grandma and ggg grandma names.

First of all, I don't want to get your hopes up because I don't have JC in my tree (yet) but since I am brickwalled on MY Joneses, from the same area, maybe we have some missing puzzle pieces for each other. I do have Velina Brooks and Allen Jones in my database, because Velina's brother Francis Marion Brooks is the ancestor of a man who married one of my Jones cousins.
I am intrigued by Baldwin Henderson Jones. I see that he lived in Chatham at one time. Although I DO have a lot of Hendersons in the family, Baldy's name may have been chosen as a tribute to local or national military or political heroes. This was common! Lots of Jeffersons and Lees and Lafayettes. Not many LINCOLNs, tho! Ha!
The Jones I am looking for is Calvin Sneed Baker Jones, my GGgranddad. I have no idea where the Sneed came from. We believe his mother's name to have been Naomi Baker. We don't even know exactly where he was born, although the birth year of 1822 was found by one cousin. He was in Chatham in 1850 and 1860. We believe he died in 1866, but I have not yet found a grave or any other proof, other than his wife Martha being a widow in 1870.
My Jones family lived mostly in Chatham, Orange, and Alamance. Still, we haven't found Calvin S B's daddy. He could have been from Wake or Moore. Calvin married Martha Perry, and the Perrys didn't let their daughters marry anyone they didn't know. It is said that Calvin S B's father was a Rev. James Jones, born abt 1789, but I have never run into any record of him. Calvin was on the committee to acquire land for the Browns Chapel Methodist church in Chatham, but no sign of a grave there for him.

Hi Charlotte,
I can't offer any help, but I would like to thank you for all of the good information. My interest is due to Sarah Anna Jones & Mary Etta Jones, both of whom married into the Rosser family - my maternal line. These were the only children I had for B. H. Jones, so I now how the complete list of children and a full name for their father. I'm also a Ragland descendant, so there is interest in that line. Can I get one last detail straight. For the children of Junius, which of the two wives was their mother?

Hey!
Thank you for your kind remarks! Maybe this way, I can get my granddad's name and his children corrected! I have seen so many postings out there with incorrect information. Even the LDS family search site has it messed up! But I have seen more mistakes on that site than the others.
J.C. first wife was the mother of Erwin Culbreth Jones. Her name was Ila Hunter(Not sure of spelling of first name, dont have my notes with me). She died not long after Erwin was born. His second wife was Cornelia Myrtle "Mertie" Yarborough, daughter of Andrew Yarborough and Rebecca Hinesley. Email me directly if you have any more questions!
Hope this helps and have a good week!
