My family came from the black forest area in Germany. Have you ever heard of a family called the Readerer? Reeder? Riederer?

Thank you for your reply. This is what I have:

Frederich Readerer married Elizabeth Still (NuStill). They had a son named John Baptiste Readerer, born Dec 1813 in Baden Germany. My Great grandfather called it "Baden on the Rhine" at the foot of the Black Forest of Germany. He died in the US on May 15, 1900. He Married Maria Ursula Binkert, her date of birth is believed to be abt 1811-1813 in Germany. They had three known children: Rosina, born 1836 in Baden Germany. She married Franklin B Ziegelbauger (he was born in Wurtemburg, Germany abt 1830. Aunt Rose said they came to America when she was 9 yrs old. This would have been around 1845? The other known children were John Baptist Reader, born about 1841 in Baden, Germany and Margaretha Reader born Apr 28, 1843 in Oberschworstadt, Germany.

A lot of what I know has been handed down from grandparents any thing that you can help me with would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kindness.

Dear Wenda,
I am curious about your Reeder family.I have many spellings:Reederer,Reader,Roederer. Apparantely the Zeiser family may have two marriages between,Reeder or Roederers.
Here is what I know. My ggggrandfather was Anton Reeder
and he married Maria Eva Zeiser. They both were born in Baden. Anton was born around 10FEB 1825.There are different dates on his tombstone and in the census. Eva is four years younger. In the 1880Census for Cincinnati,Ohio the last name is spelled Reader.
There is a Leonard Zeiser that is born NOV.11 1822 in Oberhausen, emmigrating in 1846. We believe that his sister is Maria Eva Zeiser and that her son,Anthony Leonard Reeder(my gggrandfather)was named after him and Eva's husband Anton. Leonard's wife,Magdalena's maiden name was Reeder so we think herr brother was Anton.
Can you shed light on any of this?
Thanks,Joyce Meyer

I was wondering what documentation you had that Reeder/Reader was originally Roederer. Did you find records on Anton Reader to originally be Roederer? I've been researching the Roederer family from the Black Forest region quite extensively.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello Rhonda,
I am looking through my Roederer/Reeder records and have seen this spelling on the following:
1) In a Cincinnati Germaan newspaper called the Cincinnati Volksfreund on 20MAR1882 page 8 obituary for my gggrandfather,Anton Roederer. All of his children and his wife's last names are listed throughout the obit and there-
fore there are 6 times in which the name is spelled"Roederer".
2) St.Joseph's Church in Cincinnati,Ohio, Marriage record on 16MAY1853 lists Antonius Roederer and Maria Anna Zug marriage.Witnesses are Mathias Blank and Francisca Roederer,Frances Schweizer and Elisabetha Sedler.
3) The Restored Hamilton County Marriage Records 1850-1859 gives Roederer,Anton and Zug,Maria Anna-16MAY1853

It is when Anton Reeder appears on the St.Joseph Old Cemetery 1845-1879 list that the name is given as Reeder,Anton 18NOV1854..
The handwritten church records spell it that way too.

Curiously,I am looking at the original Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery Society record and Roederer is crossed out and Reeder is written in for Anton Reeder's interment 3-18-1882.
Baden is given as place of birth. The lot appears to be in the name of Mueller and Roedirer?Yet another spelling.
Occasionaly I have seen Reder but most relatives of which there are few left still use Reeder. This family immigrated
1846 to NY from Oberhausen-Baden.Anton was a Brick Maker.

If you find anything and if you have any more questions let me know.Schweizer above is probably Zeiser.

Hi Joyce:
Was this Roederer family in Oberhausen for several generations? I'm hoping to connect this family to the Roederers in Diersburg, Oberschopfheim or Friesenheim (where most seem to appear). Do you have anything on the ancestors of Anton Roederer?
