HELP! Location of Whitby Cemetery

I need help in finding the EXACT location of Whitby Cemetery in Goliad, Goliad Co. As you approach Goliad from Beeville on Hwy. 59 there is a rather large sign that says "Whitby Cemetery" with an arrow pointing to the right. However, we have driven up and down those streets (even gone on part that isn't much more than a dirt track), at least 5 different times and have never been able to find it. Is there anyone out there who can pinpoint its exact location for me?

Thanks,
Lori

Are you certain it's not Wisbey Cemetery? US Geological Survey does have that one on the SW side of Goliad about where you are talking about:

I could be wrong, since I have never been to Goliad. :)

Yeah, I saw that and they may be one and the same, but the SIGN says "Whitby". In any case, I have not been able to find ANY cemetery on that road. I need someone to pinpoint it for me, whatever the name. Thanks for the response.

If you think someone specific may be buried there, perhaps a request to the Goliad County discussion list or message board for someone to stop by and check Wisbey would be worthwhile:

Thank you so much for your help. I have tried writing to the Goliad Chamber of Commerce to see if they could pinpoint the cemetery for me, but no one ever bothered to answer me.

No, I don't know any one buried there (although some of my ancestors are from the Beeville area), just want to find the cemetery.

You might have better luck with the local police or sherriff's department rather than the Chamber of Commerce, since they likely patrol the area. Sometimes the street or parks department people know as well. Does Goliad County have a historical commission?

Yeah, last time we were in Goliad, we did see a Sherrif's car on that road and were going to ask, but no one was in the car! Problem is the only day we can usually get down there (I live in San Antonio) is on Sunday, so most "helpful" places are closed (although, of course, Police/Sherrif's Depts. wouldn't be).

I do thank you for all your helpful suggestions. I am trying to assemble info on small, "lost", &/or hard to find cemeteries in TX. I have found that TXDoT has become very good at putting up signs to point you in the right direction, but once you get off state maintained roads, counties seldom put up signs.
