Are you still looking? I hope not. :D There's more than one candidate in the Danish census; just two in 1845 in Aarhus amt (searching only for people listed with both first initial N and middle initial F). Are you sure it's a seaman's chest? Mvh

I think this one may be a more likely possibility....

Take a look at http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=GB...

There was a Niels Fri Nielsen who applied for a 1st Mate's certificate in 1874. According to the record he was born in Aarhus in 1847 and if you look at the list of ships that he sailed on (image #6 )- the first was the 'Kjerstine' out of Aarhus on April 30 1862.

Found his birth/baptism record in Aarhus Domsogn - born Oct 30 1847, Niels Frii Nielsen, parents Andreas Lindberg Nielsen and Marie Frederikke Aling ( or Alling)
You wouldn't have found him on the census records because they were listed only as:
