Hi Gary -
This is the first time I have visited this website. I saw your query about John Harteau. My grandmother on my fathers side was Clara Harteau and her father was John Harteau and he lived in the Odanah area. My grandmother was born on an Indian Reservation near Odanah and my father was born on that same Reservation. I have one picture of John Harteau but no picture or mention of his wife or my greatgrandmother? I don't know when he died but 1916 would be approximately correct. Clara married Anton Gunderson and my father was Raymond Gunderson born in 1901, my maiden name is Karen Gunderson. My grandmother moved to Flint Michigan and we met many Harteau's in that area .
Any information you can give me considering John Harteau would be much appreciated. There is a chance we're talking about the same John Harteau. Please reply my email.

Hi Gary,

I recently started to search the Harteau name and saw your post. Sam Harteau, my grandfather, was John Henry's son.
His daughter, my mother, was adopted (not formally) and they didn't tell of her background. Sam died in 1940 in St. Paul, MN. After John Hebnry's first wife, Celia Vincent, died her parents used to vist him and his second wife who was an Indian women on the Bad River Indian Reservation. If you have info please let me know. We would appreciate it. Thank you.
