Sturgis; Charles G. GETZLOFF Sr., 73, 1002 Ohio Court, died Dec. 7, 1995, at the Sturgis Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Benton Harbor, a son of Rudolph and Zoe GETZLOFF.

In 1955, he married Luella Mae SAVAGE, in Angola, Ind.


He graduated from Benton Harbor High School and attended Tri-State College two years. He was a longtime resident of the Sturgis area. He was Lt. Col. In the U.S. Air Force and commander of the 9618th Air Reserve Squadron when he retired after 26 years of service. He was a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II assigned to the 15th Air Force in Italy and he took part in the air assault on Germany. He was shot down, wounded and a prisoner of war until liberated in 1945. He was employed as a purchasing executive by Transogram and he was a purchasing agent for Kuhlman Industries, Bronson, when he retired in 1987. He was a member of the Captain John J. Kelley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1355 and he enjoyed photography, target shooting, fishing and camping.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Charles G. GETZLOFF Jr., Sturgis; one daughter, Pamela HASTON, LaGrange, Ind.; a step-son, Michael Lee WILCOX, Hemet, Calif.; a step-daughter, Frances SMITH, Sutherlin, Ore.; three grandchildren, Robert ANTEAU and Tylynn ANTEAU, both of Sturgis; and Bradley WILCOX, Hemet; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Relatives and friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home, Sturgis, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and services are at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Doug Carr, First Church of God, will officiate. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery with military honors being conferred by the Captain John J. Kelley VFW Post 1355.

Memorials may be directed to the VFW Post 1355. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Charles is pictured in Wings, yearbook of the 44-E class of cadets at Pecos Army Air Field in Pecos, Texas. He is a flight cadet. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching the family.
