Captain Ephraim Dean Family

Surnames: DEAN, KINGSBURY, KNOWLTON, PINDER, HAYWARD, CARPENTER, ALLEN
The History of Bristol County shows the following burials in the Pine Hill Cemetery in East Taunton:

"In memory of Capt. Ephraim Dean, who died in Gloucester June 23d, 1775, in the 75th year of his age."

"In memory of Mrs. Mary Dean, the wife of Capt. Ephraim Dean, who died Octo. ye 8, 1766, in ye 67th year of her age."

"In memory of Mrs. Martha Dean, the wife of Capt. Ephraim Dean, she died May ye 9, 1775, in the 72d year of her age."

The Vital Records of Taunton add that Captain Ephriam Dean died on his way to Ashford.

A quit claim deed in Ashford, CT, dated 8 Nov 1770 in which Martha Dean and her husband Capt. Ephraim Dean of Taunton give up any rights to a forty-one acre farm in Ashford which Jonathan Kingsbury bought from William Knowlton (Jr.) and upon which Martha Dean previously lived, confirms that Martha Dean was the previous Martha (Pinder) Knowlton, wife of William Knowlton.

Additionally, I have Hannah Hayward, daughter of John/Jonathan Hayward and Anne Carpenter, married Zephaniah Dean, son of Ephraim Dean and Mary Allen, on 2 Oct 1755. The Taunton VR confirm that Ephraim Dean married Mary Allen.

I am interested in any information relating to these families.

DEAN / ALLEN / Cobb FAMILIES

I have been trying to work on my Allen familytree and have had all kinds of problems.

My Allen family came from Berkley, MA and married into the Cobb family (Zipporah Allen m. Simeon Cobb 1743 in Berkley, MA). The Cobb family then married into the Dean family (Zipporah Cobb m. Nathan Dean 1762 in Norton, MA). The families lived mostly in Norton and Attleboro, MA. Cobb and Dean are very common names in the Norton / Taunton area and I can not make heads or tails as to where this family and their siblings may have gone.

If this rings a bell I'd appreciate your assistance.

The Cobb family mentioned (Simeon Cobb) is only a part of the Taunton (Bristol Co.)branch of the Cobb family. John, Augustine and Edward Cobb are the roots of this branch. The Taunton branch was later found in Dedham, MA; Wrentham, MA; Westmoreland, NH, Coventry, VT, and Canada. Some stayed in the Taunton, Norton, and Mansfield, MA area as well. Further emigration was westward to MI and KS as far as I know. Edward Cobb's descendants are less known than John's and Augustine's descendants. It is an incomplete picture right now.

Wow, thanks for the information. Do you have or know where I can find the descendants of Simeon Cobb and and Zipporah Allen? I would also like to get 1 or 2 generations back on the ancestors of Simeon Cobb.

One of the complications I have run into is that there were so many Cobbs in the Norton and Taunton area that it becomes diffucult to sory them out without mixing lines.

Any help would be appreciated.
