Ephraim Hammet, Rochester, NH, Woman at the Well monument
Looking for Ephraim Hammet. There's one at the Haven Hill Cemetery, but this is Ephraim II. His huge monument is the "Woman at the Well" (Woman of Samaria). I'm hoping someone has some information on this as I have taken my mother to every cemetery in Rochester that I can find, but no monument!

I wanted to make sure I knew the one you were talking about before I stated so. I am going to be uploading the pictures of this statue and the memorials to this cemetery. It is the Old Rochester Cemetery that the statue is in. Here is the url: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=94...; do a search and you will find Ephraim as well as everyone else that is in that plot.

Re: Ephraim Hammet, Rochester, NH, Woman at the Well monument
Hi, Thank you so much for reading my post and replying. There is a story that goes along with this monument which goes something like; Ephraim told his wife that he wanted a large monument of the Woman at the Well, but his wife apparently did not agree because it would cost too much money (something like that). Ephraim passed away and ended up getting the monument anyway! My 85 year old mother saw the monument many years ago, and she has a pamphlet that tells the entire story, but the only reference to a cemetery mentioned "Old Cemetery". Ephraim was married more than once I'm told. One of his wives was Ann W. Clark ...not sure if she was his last wife or not, but I suspect she was. Ann is the only one I have listed. Thank you again, Jeff

That's great, thank you so much! My mother will be so happy ...we've driven down to Rochester a couple times but couldn't find it. I really appreciate your help :) My mother is from the Hunkins family.

Re: Ephraim Hammet, Rochester, NH, Woman at the Well monument
If you should ever want to go visit the cemetery give me a comment on this a few days in advance...I check my mail daily. I can meet you and bring you right to it if you would like. Yes, it is the old Rochester cemetery and if you don't know where it is you wouldn't find it. It is pretty well hidden. ;-) I would love to see the pamphlet. If she can't make the trip to go actually see it now she can as I uploaded the pictures and linked and stated all those that were on the large headstone all four sides. Enjoy and glad I could help. I have been working as a volunteer in helping to document the cemeteries in the area since 1999. I'm glad to be of help.

Re: Ephraim Hammet, Rochester, NH, Woman at the Well monument
Hi Michelle, We were down there a couple weeks ago and actually drove through Rochester Cemetery ...we even spoke with a woman over on the other side of the road in the newer section who was tending a grave, and she didn't even know about the location apparently. I took a look at "Old Cemetery" using Google Earth. I can see how easy it would be to not know it was there! I'll see if I can get the pamphlet from my mother; I could at least scan it and send it to you if you would be interested. Thank you again for your help, Jeff

yes...I would be very interested to see it..even a scanned copy would be very interesting. I also just ran down the cemetery and took a few more pictures..the sun today was a bit bright and it didn't do well on some of the photos so I will update a few of them. You can also go to my profile and do a last name search if there is anyone else your are looking for in regards to your family. I update it quite often and add to it all the time. I have several who go to my profile once a week to see if there is anyone else that they may have missed. I'm glad that I could be of help!! Tell your mother (and you) she is very welcome!!
