Kevin,

Try these contacts fi you have not done so already.. You should also search on Google. Numerous hits with mention of the 573rd attached to the 5th Armored Div in 1945 etc.... Also unit bibliography at USAMHI

This first alumni group should be an active contact beacuse it was just listed in the American Legion magazine in July 05.

Are you refering to the 573rd AAA Automatic Weapons Battalion, that departed the New York Port of Embarkation Saturday, December 16, 1944? Sailing on the RMS Queen Elizabeth, the troop ship arrived at Gourock, Scotland December 21, 1944?

Does the Battalion History indicate the troop ship the 573rd was onboard when it arrived at the New York Port of Embarkation March 21, 1946? If so, would you be so kind as to share with me the name of the troop ship, as well as the date & location the troop ship departed the ETO?

The Battalion history appears to have been printed in July 1945 just at the time of reassignment from the Ninth Army to the Seventh Army. Many men were sent home individually when they acquired the requisite "points". They were transferred to units which were bound for the US. My Dad was discharged on 2-14-46 at Ft Dix, NJ and so I know he did not return with the 573rd. His original unit was Battery B, 449th AAA, but he was recycled due to an appendicitis during training.
