Surnames: LEONARD, MAGUIRE, BRANDON, FINNERTY
These Leonards are from the townland of Lissyegan in Ahascragh. Several of the generation born in the 1870-80s landed NYC between 1900 and 1920... settling in the city and its suburbs. MAGUIRE, BRANDON, and FINNERTY are some of the related branches in the Ahascragh area. Would be happy to share our findings.

Peter:

My name is Steve Leonard and my gggrandparents came from
Gurrane, parish of Kilbegnet in County Galway which is a
stone throw from Ahascragh. They were Patrick Leonard
and Mary Smyth. Patrick was born in 1800. Would like to hear about your Leonards

I am from Ahascragh, county Galway. My grandfather was Timothy Leonard, born in Lissyegan, Ahascragh in 1895 (I'm estimating). Timothy had 7 sons and 4 daughters, and was married to Mary Josephine Flynn, born 1912. His father was John Leonard, I don't know when he was born. I have heard that my ancestors, 4 Leonard brothers, came from Spain a long time ago, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'd really like to hear more about any Leonards from Ahascragh, especially Lisseyegan,

It was good to hear from you, actually the closest I am
to Ahascragh is Gurrane. Is that village still there.
It is suppose to be near Creggs. But that doesn't mean
my gg grandfather Patrick didn't come from Lissyeagan.
he just married Mary Smyth from Gurrane. Not sure if Smyth
Funeral is related to her or not. I have another friend,
Mary Swatta whose gg grandfather Hugh Leonard is from
Lissyegan. In fact, I think he is buried there in 1860 and
a g grandfather John Leonard of Lissyegan born 1810 and died
1897. She lives in Iowa. There is not much to say about
our time in Ireland. I was hoping that I could find Patricks
family and that would open up another family line. My home
e:mail is sleonard65@netzero.com. It helps to use that
instead of Ancestry.
