I am stuck at a William Bunton who married Eleanor "Nelly" Arnold parents of William "Billy" Bunton who married Francis "Fanny" Griffen. There has been a conflict in where William came from, some say over seas and some the states and have very conflicting dates was William Sr. born around 1755? ...if you can help please Email me..darkangel1@attglobal.net

The Bunting/Buntons in Morgan Co IN are descendants of my gggf William Bunting b. 1775? d. June 1827 Asheboro NC mar. Abigail (MNU) Bunting, b. 1775 d after 1860. I have a complete list of their children. Wm. Hix Bunting b. 1809 mar. Mary Bell b. 1816 in 1833 in Asheboro NC. To Cocke Co TN in 1850 and on to Morgan Co IN in 1860. WHB died about 1861. Mary Bell's burial place is known but the birth date n it is wrong. I have a list of their children. This WHB was brother to my ggf Solomon Bunting 1822-89. All others were girls. William and Abigail and son Solomon and family are buried in Asheboro City Cem. downtown. It took me 25 yrs. to find WHB and Mary Bell and it was by accident this happened. Tom Bowens of IN has done extensive research on the descendants of WHB and Mary Bell. It is belieed that Mary Bell was one of 5 illeg chilren of Elizabeth Bell who mar Alsey Floyd (after childrens' births). I have been working on this family 30 years. I have info on this family back to ca 550 if you are interested. I have an extensive history on the internet if you are interested. WHB has descendants in Randolph Co.
Our ancestral home, Bunting Field, Derbyshire, England was given to John Bunting in 1285 by King Edward I. It stayed in our family until 1819 and is known as Bunting Field today. It is owned by two Lee brothers. Always glad to share.

Did you ever find any information on William Bunton? I am stuck on the same point. Some say he was a British soldier who changed sides in the revolution and so say not. I also am interested in ancesters of Francis Griffin if you have any information on them.

My grandfather was Clinton Bunton, who used to tell me a story about a relative being a British Redcoat, so I am sure this has to be in the same family. I have a Bunton book from Johnson County, TN. I would like to share information.

Thanks,
Linda Bunton Thompson

Thanks for your reply. As near as I can figure my Bunton Acesters are Martha 'Patsy' Bunton who married Peter Potter and her parents William D Bunton who married Frances Griffin. Any information about those folks and their ancesters would be much apreciated. I am finding a lot of conflicting information. Thanks!

My Bunton book does list Martha as the child of William Bunton (sister to my ancestor, Elijah) and Fanny Griffin and the wife of Peter Potter. That book also says "William was of Scotch-Irish descent. Many of his family settled in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. Willam is believed to be the son of Andrew Bunton, who later moved to Kentucky. This seems to be right, as my father was born in Kentucky. Beyond this there is conflicting information in the book, but as well as I can ascertain, Andrew as the son of John Bunton born 1725, died in 1778. From further research, I think his father was William Bunting, who married Mary Taylor, but I'm not sure. Another section of the Bunton book says that there were a lot of Johns in the family and that one of them came from Scotland. I plan to write the Willistown Township in PA, where William and Mary Bunting lived to see if I can get confirmation on his children. If I find out any more, I'll let you know.
