You seem to know a lot about the Esty/Estey family so I hope you can help me, if you have the time. My line goes: Jefferey Estey, Isaac Estey, Joshua Estey, Eleanor Estey, who married Samuel Griffith and then my line turns to Griffith and then later to Ruoff. Do you have any info on the ancestors of Jefferey? All I have are these names, and a couple of birth years. I have the name of Abigell as the wife of Joshua Estey, but no maiden name for her. Also, I have seen the name spelled Esty, Estey and I have read two books on the Salem witch trials and in both of them the name is spelled Easty. Can you explain this? Thanks so much for your time.

Jeffrey's father was Christopher Estey (or Easty) born at Hintlesham, England in 1621. Christopher's father was Jeffrey Estey (or Estye) born about 1515. He died about 1592/3. Joshua Esty's wife was Abigail Stanley. Regards to spelling of the sound Esty. In the old days spelling was less important than it is today and surnames were spelled according to how they sounded which was different if the clerk recording it was German, French or English. I have the Griffith's in my data base would like more details on yours. Will send to you free a copy of "Isaac Esty of Topsfield and Some of His Descendants," if I know your US mailing address. Send me a separate e-mail. Jim Roome in Ontario NY
