To Steck-Minnesota/Kansas: Amelia Gehrt Steck (lived in Paxico) was my mother's aunt. From what I recall, Amelia was a widow by the late 40's, when we went to visit her one time. My mother was Helen Finnie in McFarland, Kansas, through the 40's until 1955 when we moved to Topeka. If I remember correctly, there was a family of Stecks in McFarland, KS - Bill and Margaret and two sons, Billy and Bobby (I think). Billy was killed in a car accident in early 50's, seems it was on the back road between Paxico and Maple Hill. Anyway, I think Irene Fair (also of McFarland)was Bill Steck's sister. Now, I don't know if Bill and Irene were children or maybe grandchildren of Amelia. I don't know any other dates, but maybe some of this will help in putting some pieces together. Good luck!

Minnie (Dittman) Gehrt, my grandmother (my mom's mother, was married to Amelia's brother John Benjamin Gehrt. John Gehrt died in 1929, age 62, and Minnie died in 1967 at age 86. I've heard of George Gehrt, but not sure who he was. John Senne was married to Josephine Gehrt, a cousin of my mother's. How are you related to these people? John and Minnie lived in or around Paxico for some time after they were married (she was his second wife), then they moved to Topeka. John's first wife was Christina, who died in childbirth. I may have her maiden name somewhere. If I might be of any further help, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Billy Steck of McFarland, I believe a grandson of Amelia, was married around 1950 to a Jean from Paxico, had 1 or 2 children, divorced, and it seems he was not married when he was killed in car accident. Jean was mentally unstable (hearsay), and I don't recall ever hearing anything more of her.

Hello Earl,

Long time - John and Minnie definitely were your grandparents - mine, too. I'm your cousin, Pat Finnie from McFarland. E-mail sure makes it a small world, doesn't it? I check on some genealogy hit and miss.

I don't have much contact with any of our family back there (we're in Oregon), so I do some checking on the internet. That is also where I saw your mom had died a few years back. How is everyone? I also saw where Gertrude (Gertie) had died about a year ago.

Give my regards to all.

Sincerely,
Pat

Francis Konz was my uncle. I would have a few pictures of Caroline in my online Kodak photo gallery. If you e-mail me, I will give you access.
