Hi,
Don't know if we have a connection by my Mrkvickas came from Bohemia. I have an Anton Mrkvicka, married Maria Yanovic and they resided in Haugen, Wisconsin.
He died Oct 12, 1929 and is buried in Haugen, Wisconsin.
Maria died June ll, 1932 but when I tried to get a copy of her death cert.,Vital Records did not have it so I don't know if she died in another State.
Their children were: Barbra, born in 1886 and she married a Mr. Dobromysl and then Joseph Jilek Sr. and Barbra died Mar 8, 1924 of TB. The second child was Antonia, born Aug 6, 1894 in Prague and she married Charles Martin Hrdlicka on June 29, 1915 and died July 6, 1978. She is buried in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. Antonia is my husband's great grandmother.
Since you mentioned Wisconsin and Anton, I thought I would see if we have a connection.
Sincerely, Theresa Kowall

I am researching the family of Rose/Rosalia Mrkvica, who immigrated to the U.S. about 1893 at age 8. I don't her parents' names yet.

Census records where she lived in Berwyn,Cook County, Illinois, say she came from Czechslovakia/Bohemia/Austria and spoke Czech.

She married Frank Joseph(Franz Josef?)Porod/Parod when she was about 25. She died in 1957. He died in Nov. 1966. They are buried in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.

Is any of this familiar?

Do you have her manifest? She, as an 8 year old child did not travel alone. Need to know where she was born in "old country" to proceed with the research.

Ellen,
Rose Mrkvicka was my grandmother's sister. Grandma was Barbara Mrkvicka Vinopal (husband John Vinopal) and they lived in Mauston, WI. Their parents were Karel and Anna (Hustaba) Mrkvicka. I believe they came to America in 1891. I found them on some of the census records. Are you related to Rose? I'd love to hear from you.
