Help me with DAR lineage papers - LAMAR
I am trying to prove lineage for DAR entry for William Bishop Lamar. My lineage is William Bishop Lamar - Mareen Tyler Lamar - Benoni Smith Lamar - Robert Emory Lamar - Edmund Newman Lamar - Carl Fletcher Lamar - me! I have it all proved except for one generation. Mareen Tyler Lamar was the first Lamar to come to Hancock County. He came with his brother, Benoni Smith Lamar. Mareen Tyler Lamar married Rebecca Rice in Maryland and came to Kentucky. They had a son they named Benoni Smith Lamar. I am looking for proof that Benoni Smith Lamar was son of Mareen Tyler Lamar. I know this is true. Benoni's son was Robert Emory Lamar, my father's grandfather. Robert Emory's son was Edmund Newman Lamar and his son was Carl Fletcher Lamar, my father. The 1830 and 1840 census' only show Benoni as a 'tick' and not a name. I have not found a record of will for Mareen Tyler Lamar. Mareen Tyler signed Benoni Smith's marriage certificate but is not named as 'father'. Any help you can give to prove this relationship would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Help me with DAR lineage papers - LAMAR
That History of Frederick County is a severely flawed secondary source and can not be used for anything useful. There are so many things wrong with it, it's not even worth talking about.
Carla, I would suggest that you contact George Gibbs at the Hancock Co. Archives. Ask for a copy of the marriage record of Benoni S. Lamar and Martha Wheatley from Hancock Co. Marriage Book 1B. They had parental consent to marry and their parents names should be given.

Re: Help me with DAR lineage papers - LAMAR
I was having a terrible time proving that Benoni Smith was son of Maureen Tyler. Census records didn't help - no will from MTL, etc. Finally found the marriage application that showed the names of both fathers. The marriage certificate was signed by both fathers but not identified as the fathers - the application did it for me!!! I have copies of this documentation of you need it!

Benoni Smith was only a 'tic' in the 1840 census and was married by 1850.
