Confused! My mother appears twice in my tree...

My mum and dad were divorced a few years ago and she went on to remarry. Obviously both her husbands are visible on my tree BUT for some unknown reason (which is very annoying) my mum appears twice!!
Other than that it looks like a classic family tree; both my mum and dad's siblings, parents and grandparents etc are clearly shown and obviously me and my siblings.
The second person that's been created for my mum gives the option to look at her family tree. Isn't mum's tree already in view??
Can anyone explain why this has happened and how I can remedy it?

On the profile page of mum, (pick one), pull down the More Options menu, and select Merge with Duplicate.

First, make sure there really are two separate profiles - go to the "list of all people" and see if she is there twice (if so, follow the process above). If not, it may be something to do with the display function - are you seeing this only when looking at the "family view" or does the problem also appear when looking at profiles?

Sorry should have mentioned that I've already tried merging them but it says there isn't a second person to merge with...
Yes it is only in the "family view" not profiles, just realised my stepdad appears twice as well! Maybe it is just down to a display issue, possibly confusion in the software as to how to place them since they are first cousins (which again I should have mentioned, sorry)

The cousin relationship should be the reason for the duplicate appearances in **family view only**.

The "Family View" chart can not draw zig-zagged or diagonal lines to indicate cousinhood and marriage at the same time, so it shows each person's partial lineage plus each person's marriage.

The wisest course is always to first look at List of Persons and see if an individual is duplicated there, after making a mental note to the effect that there is a marriage between cousins that could be the reason for the duplicates in the FV chart.

Whenever holographic (virtual 3D) displays become possible, such chart problems should disappear, but there are a lot of viewing difficulties to overcome in that sort of format.

So, annoying as the display issue may be, seems I'm just going to have to get used to it, either that or change to using "pedigree view" only.
Thanks very much to all of you for your insight.

Hi I have in the past had one person showing up twice and to make sure in the list of people I'd give on of the names a number1 so in the tree I can see which one to keep and which one not to keep.

Since the member tree application was fixed to allow merge, it is now not necessary to delete one profile if there are two-just used the new merge option-it works great.
