Thanks for responding to my posting. No, my Joan INKSTER was born in 1868. But however, my INKSTERs did come from Burra. Interesting though, I have LEASK cousins who are somehow related to my INKSTER side. I will investigate this further.
I've been working on the INKSTER line. Inkster is a very common name in the Shetland Islands. My Inksters specifically came from West Burra Island but their records are in Bressay. I have a Joan Inkster in my data base as follows:
Joan Inkster was the daughter of Robert and Agnes Inkster. born 13 Dec. 1837.
If this isn't the Joan you're looking for there may be some other connection since Jameison is also a name in my family tree.
Robert and Agnes had 5 children one of which is my anscestor , George. George also had 7 children of whom I have not yet found all their decendants.
I found these records at the LDS IGI file batch # 110014 series #1431.
I hope this helps
I would be interested in learning more about your Leask cousins. I have been working on my husband's family for a while now and have compiled quite a list. However, I have not encountered any Inksters yet. Maybe there is a connection that isn't part of our direct line?
I have an Arthur Leisk married to Margaret Jameison. date of birth and marriage unknown. robably before 1843. Their children were:
George Leisk July 18 1843
Barbara Leisk 26 Oct 1846
Lawrence Leisk 16 Set 1849
Arthur Leisk 20 feb 1852
Mary Leisk 10 Aug 1856
Ann Leisk 6 July 1861
Margaret Leisk (my ancestor)24 Dec 1853
Catherine Leisk 26 mar 1864
Jessie Leisk 6 mar 1867
from the LDS IGI batch #c110014 series #1556.
My ancestors are from West Burra Isle but all the records are in Bressay.
Dawn or Steve,
Do you have a Thomas Jamieson, who married Anne Leask on December 10th 1829 in Dunrossnes, Burra or Bressay. They had only one child, William Jamieson christened 1831. Any relation?
I have several relatives from Dunrossness Parish as well as from Burra Parish. Henry born 1789, George christened 1811, Henry christened 1814, Willimina Christened 1817, Margarite christened 1820, John christened 1821, Adam christened 1823, Marion christened 1825 and or 1829, William christened 1827, Barbara christened 1832, Sinclair christened 1833, James christened 1836, and Christina christened 1840. Are these familiar as cousins?
Thanks for contacting me. I would need more information to be sure of anything, but from what I have, I doesn't look like there is a connection. I could be wrong, though. However, I do have a John Inkster (1859-1928) marrying Catherine Jeromson (1862-1896) in 1885. All dates are in Shetland. Does this ring any bells for you? I'd really be happy to hear from you.
My Leask cousins now live in Bayfield, Wisconsin. My information on this is quite dodgy and I will have to get in touch with them to find out more detailed information. Basically this is what I have gathered. Their mother Ruby was an Inkster and she married an Adam Leask. My two cousins John and Hank are their sons. I know Hank and his wife were in Shetland a few years back and would probably be more into the Leask family history end of things. If you like I will dig up his snail mail address.
My name is Robert A. Coutts and I have a Catherine (Katie) Jeromson in my family tree. The two main lines in my tree are Jeromson and Coutts.
