Hi Chris and Bernie,

Just surfing around, I noticed this message. JBB was my great-great grandfather. I'm decended from one of Frederik's brothers, all I know about him is that his middle name is Edward, and my father refers to him as 'Ted'. From there, my grandfather was Edward Burdett Bowler, and my father is Peter George Burdett Bowler. My father was brought up in Bath, and moved to Knutsford in Cheshire. I'm writing this from North London. I would be interested in trying to find out my ancestors from even further back!

Hi Jason, we could well be related as Frederick had a brother called James Edward Bowler born 18/2/1876. He was the youngest child.

I have researched back a little way, but only undocumented via websites etc, no birth certs.
? Bowler (1776 to ?/11/1828) and Anna ? (1780 to 6/1/1826) had Frederick Edward Bowler (5/11/1802 to 17/8/1854) who married Mary Ann Woodman (9/5/1806 to 9/4/1875) and they had Jonathon Burdett Bowler (7/1/1834 to 9/3/1911).

I have more info on the Woodmans and on Bowler siblings and of course all JBB's children.

I also have a copy of the family tree which came from the museum in Bath.

If you need any further info please contact me. Or if you find anything else.

Nice to make a connection.

Regards Bernie.

Bernie and Jason,
Do you know if Frederick and James Edward Bowler had a brother Thomas born between 1803 and 1804? If so, I may be distantly related! My Thomas Bowler (born Tag Hill, Derby, Leicestershire) married (1) Ann Spencer in 1830 in Shepshed, Leicestershire, and (2) Elizabeth Broomhead in 1848 in Sileby, Leicestershire.

OK, I didn't know back that far! I just 'know' from JBB downwards. That was what I was trying to describe earlier. My line goes: JBB, 'Ted' (Frederick?), Edward Burdett Bowler, Peter George Burdett Bowler, Jason Burdett Bowler. That puts me on the museum tree, far right, halfway down. If my memory serves me right!

I'll see what else I can dig up ...

You may well already know this but, there is mention of James Bowler in the book "Mr Bowler of Bath" (all about JBB). James' s son Edward George Burdett Bowler, and Edward's wife, Ivy Doris Bowler (Nee Beaverstock) visited the museum and stated that the items on JBB's desk had been made by James, who specialised in ornate and delicate brasswork.

There is also mention of "Ted" in the book but it could be Edward Carpenter married to Kate Bowler, who was also known as Ted.

If I dig up any more I'll let you know.

Hi Jason.
I'm doing a little research myself on the Burdett-Bowler family tree as I also have a distant connection to Jonathan Burdett-Bowler.
The key piece of infomation that I have missing is how/where Jonathan picked up the Burdett name. My records show that he married Emma Penton Blake and that his parents were Frederick Edward Bowler and Mary Ann Woodman, neither of whom show any connection to the Burdett family.
Do you have any information surrounding this that may be of help? I'm wondering if there was another marriage at some point.

Many thanks in advance.

Just read your message re Thomas Bowler born 1806 Tag Hill, Derbyshire. Thomas and Elizabeth were my gt. gt. grandparents.

It would be interesting to know where you fit in.

Does anyone have information regarding William John Bowler born 1809 Westminster London and married to Mary Archer (born about 1819 probably in London). William is my great-great-grandfather but I have no information other than the above.

According to my research John Bowler married Ann Burdett in Dunstable in 1782 (both otp) They bp 5 children in Dunstable then moved to Bath (I know not why) and bp 5 children there. I am descended from their oldest son John Bliss Bowler, Frederick Edward Bowler (father of JBB) is their youngest son. I would like to know where the Bliss came from. John Bowler was born 1760 and Ann in 1762 but do not appear in the Dunstable records. There is a possible John Bowler in the Woburn records but no proof it is the right one.

I am a descendant of John Bowler via Frederick Edward and JBB. Sorry, Can't help with the Bliss connection I can't find any info back beyond John Bowler's birth in 1760, goodness knows where. I did find John Bliss Bowler listed as father to John Charles Bowler at the latter's christening in 1821. I only found 8 children for John Bowler - John Bliss, Martha, Joseph, Mary, Robert Burdett, Anne, Jessy and Frederick Edward. What does otp (of this parish?)and bp (baptised?) mean?
