Does anyone know anything about this branch of the WAITS family? From the 1900 census:

I'm guessing that Louisa HAYWOOD and George WAITS were twins. That would make all 8 living children of Manel and Manerva living either with them or next to them.

The Waits listed were my Great Grandparents(Manuel and Manervia). The brother William was my grandfather and the other Waits, exception of Haywood) were my great uncles. In prior census, I do not see that there were twins in this family. There were eight boys but I do not think that they were all Maneriva's. According to a marriage license in the Talladega Court House my grandparents did not marry until after my Grandfather was born.

Do you know anything about the ancestors of Manuel? I'm trying to see if he ties into my John WAIGHT--> Samuel Waits--> Henry--> Larry--> Ben--> Dee--> Douglas--> Douglas (my husband). John and his family (including Samuel) came to America from England in 1768, entering at Charleston. Samuel moved on to GA, then Henry to Randolph/Clay AL in the 1840s. I've wondered if the WAITS/WAITES who lived in Coosa and Talledega counties at the same time might be descendents of one of John WAIGHT's other sons (John and Benjamin).

Regarding the marriage of Manuel and Manervia - notice that they both report in the 1900 census having been married for 27 years (1873?) and that she has borne 9 children, 8 of whom are living. 'Course it also says she was born in 1847 and is age 47 which doesn't add up either :-)

I'd appreciate any info you might have on Manuel's ancestors.

My computer is down at the time and I am at the library. I have the marriage certificate of Burleson(Manuel) and Manervia and they married Sept 12, 1978. This would have been two years after my Grandfather was Born. I believe that Manervia was Burleson second wife and mother of the last three sons( Taul, Shell and Harris). I have found a marriage certificate for M.B. Waits and Mary Carden married 2/18/68 and J.L. Waits and Sarah Carden marrided 2/18/68. I believe Mary was Burleson first wife and mother of five sons( Alex, George, John, Luke and William).
I do know that Burleson was borned in South Carolina and migrated to Alabama in 1860. That is as far as I have been able to trace. There are rumors in the family that our lineage is connected to Native Americans but I can not find any evidence to support that.

One of Samuel Waits' Children was Henry Waits and you can see him in the 1860 census in Randolph co and in the 1870 census in the Clay co census (Clay was formed from Talladega and Randolph counties in 1867) but I am having trouble tying in his children. Listed in 1860 were Eliza Baltimore, Octavia and Susan A yet in the 1870 census wife Martha not listed (presumed dead) and then there is a J A, O P, and S E all females. I have to assume all these Waits' are related and somehow they tie into Samuel. If anyone knows, let me know

I found out from a cousin that the original Waits/Waites/Waight clan came from England to Wales to the US or could have been Wales to England to US. There were nine of the orginal brothers that arrived. I do not know who Burleson mother and father were. I just can not get back that far. I do know that John Waits that marred Martha Jane Cotton was related to Burleson some how but I can not tie that back either. John's parents were Samuel and Sarah Waits. John was born in 1853.

He also said the Coosa county clan were related to us but he did not remember how. Do you know why the original Waits migrated from England or Wales to US? Any information you have will be appreciated.
