When do you split a tree?

When do you split a tree?

I'm just wondering when people decide to split out their family trees and make additional ones? Do you do it, say, for each grandparent? I've seen where a lot of people have 2-4 trees and just curious as to when/how you decide to branch off.

All of my grandparents come from good-sized families of 6+ children so I'm contemplating making a tree for each to make it a little easier on myself.

Your reason for splitting a tree would be your own. Others' reasons (such as size, divorce, deciding on a surname project) would be theirs.

Splitting a tree will not, in and of itself, make the work easier; it may,in point of fact, make it harder.

Depending on the tree there may be duplicate sources, stories, people, cousin marriages, etc. that belong in more than one tree. All of that would require double data entry.
