Searching for a surname is usually quite frustrating and yields little in and of itself.

This village, in the former county of Nytra iwas called VERBOC' during the Hungarian Regiome.
in 1910 it had 63 Magyar, 79 Germans, 3150 slovaks.
Of these, 180 roman catholic, 3108 evangelical and 109 jewis.

The Mormons have not yet catalogued the church records (you can write to the Slovak Archives for these), but they do have entries for the 1869 Magyar Census: Verbocz (folyt.) Vrbovce Nytra SKALICA -- NYITRA ZANSKA. Order Film nr. 2192678 Item 1

Have you already perused the records at http://www.ellisislandrecords.org ?

I believe we are related back in the early 1800 in Vrbovce, Nitra, Slovakia. My gr-gr grandmother was Anna Melicharek, born Feb. 22, 1812 and died Nov. 1, 1866. She married Martin Bernatek in 1830. He was born 1800. Theri son Martin 1841-1904 married Elizabeth Lebota in 1864. Their son Martin 1867-1938 married Suzi Mucha 1895,and their daughter, my grandmother Elizabeth Bernatek immigratedto America in 1910. She married Josef Horvat, Americanized to Horick during naturalization. Grandmother Elizabeth was born 1896 in Vrbovce, Nytra, Slovakia (Hungary). Looking forward to hearing from you.
