Can anyone tell me if there is a Czech family surname of Chepsek? If not is there a different way to spell this name? I am helping my husband research his biological family and this is how it is spelled on a legal document in 1953. We know that his family is from Lincoln or Omaha.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sue

Thank you for your reply. My husband is adopted and found the last name of Chepsek on his adoption documents. We believe that this is his father's last name. The only information that he has been told was that his mother was in Omaha, Nebraska at sometime prior to his birth but he was born in Berkley, Ca.in 1953.
We have thought that Chepsek is a Czech surname that has been from the original. Would you have any idea on a Czech spelling or does it depend on the area? Any help or suggestions are gratefully appreciated.
Thanks, Sue

You're welcome Sue.
How do you pronounce this surname? Maybe knowing how it is pronounced in English I might be able to find its original CZ spelling.
for sure no CHEPSEK http://seznam.1188.cz/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&type=&...=
no CEPSEK, CEPSIK, CEPCIK, CEPCEK. If we had a location in "old country" than I might be able to figure out a surname.

We are assuming that the way It is heard in in english is how they are spelling it, chep and sek/sec, like wait a second. The last name is all we have, we suspect that we may need to secure his original birth certificate if we want to get the correct spelling. Of course at this point we have no idea of places where his family comes from the in the old country. Someone said it could be cepek, not sure why an s would show up in the spelling. Thanks
