Veronica N. Shaffer, 66, of Waverly, NY, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 4, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born May 13, 1946 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Wilbur and Naomi Frisbie Sharpsteen. Veronica was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed internet games, shopping, watching NASCAR and Veronica was an avid Tony Stewart fan. She is predeceased by first husband Charles Frisbie, brother Eugene Sharpsteen, mother-in-law Euleta Shaffer, and second husband Douglas Shaffer, Sr. Veronica is survived by her children Cheryl and David DeKay of Sayre, PA, Penny Laurey of Elmira, NY, Kimberly Place of Waverly, NY, and Douglas Shaffer, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Stacey and Lindsey Bennett of Towanda, PA, Christopher and Sarah DeKay of Sayre, PA, David DeKay, Jr. of Endicott, NY, Kesha DeKay of Sayre, PA, McKaylah DeKay of Sayre, PA, Valerie Farr of Waverly, NY, Brittanie Farr and Michael Merrill of Waverly, NY, Charles Wolcott, and Tyrone Clark of Elmira, NY, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings and in-laws Wilbur and Mary Ellen Sharpsteen of Waverly, NY, Darlene and Russell Robinson of Bath, NY, Beverly and William Ellison of Halsey Valley, NY, Grace and Richard Miller of Owego, NY, Audrey LaFritz of Chemung, NY, and Gilbert and Cathy Sharpsteen of Chemung, NY, aunt and uncle Joyce and John Clark of Chemung, NY and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2pm – 4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 1pm at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating from Waverly United Methodist Church. Evening Times Newspaper May 19, 2004 Douglas H. Shaffer, 59, of Waverly, N.Y., passed away Monday, May 17, 2004 at home, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Born July 23, 1944 in Sayre, he was the son of Thomas and Euleta McCloe Shaffer. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Waverly. He attended Waverly High School and worked at the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens as a machinist for over 32 years. He enjoyed watching boxing, football and all sports. Douglas was predeceased by both his parents and a sister, Cindy. He is survived by: his wife of 32 years, Veronica "Nancy," at home; his children, Douglas Shaffer Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Kim Place of Waverly, Cheryl and David DeKay of Sayre and Penny Wolcott of Elmira, N.Y.; and his grandchildren -- Kim's children Valerie and Brittanie Farr, Cheryl's children Stacey, Chris and Sarah, David Jr., Kesha and McKaylah DeKay and Penny's children Charles Wolcott and Tyrone Clark. He is also survived by: great-grandchildren, Jazlynn and Talon DeKay and Porschia Bennett; brother and sisters, Roberta "Bobbi" and Joseph DeSisti of Sayre, Thomas "To-Key" Shaffer of Waverly, James and June Shaffer of South Waverly, Marleen and Thomas Quatrini of Sayre, Grace and Paul Gardner of California, William "Cubby" and Cindy Shaffer of Sayre, Leslie and Kathy Shaffer of Waverly, Dean Shaffer of Waverly and Shelley and Tyler Fraley of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends may call Thursday, May 20 from 7-9 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Moorby, pastor of St. James Catholic Church, officiating. Euleta V. Shaffer Reynolds, 85, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at the Sayre House. She was surrounded by her family. She was born on May 6, 1918 in Sayre, the daughter of the late James and Grace Stevens McCloe. Euleta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to spending time with her family, Euleta enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She is survived by: her spouse, Edwin H. Reynolds of Sayre; daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta "Bobby" and Joseph DeSisti of Milltown, Marlene and Thomas Quattrini of Sayre, Betty "Sis" Hall and her fiance Tim Gable of Waverly, N.Y., Grace and Paul Gardner of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Shelley and Tyler Fraley of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas "Tokey" Shaffer of Waverly, James and June Shaffer of South Waverly, Douglas and Nance Shaffer of Waverly, Leslie and Kathy Shaffer of Waverly, William "Cubby" and Cindy Shaffer of Sayre and Dean Shaffer of Waverly; 35 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Euleta is also survived by her sister, Betty Scott of Waverly; sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Pete Westbrook of East Smithfield; brother and sister-in-law, James and Helen McCloe of Waverly; stepson and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Tammy Reynolds of Sayre; stepson, Eddy Reynolds of Poconos, Pa.; stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Reynolds; and sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hanford and Alice Tucker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas A. Shaffer; a daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" Shaffer; stepchildren, Steven, James and JoAnn Reynolds; sisters, Maude McCloe, Elma Park, Margaret Ellers and Nellie Frisbie; brothers, Lloyd McCloe and Kenneth McCloe; and four grandchildren. Family and friends may call Sunday, Oct. 5 from 2-4 p.m. at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main St., Athens. Funeral and committal services will follow Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Wells officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Glenwood Cemetery, Waverly. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the activities fund of the Sayre House, Inc., 1001 N. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA 18840; or the Alzheimer's Association, Kirby Health Center, 63 N.
