Hugh Patton shows up in Lower Chanceford in the 1870 census. He marries Rebecca J Burgen(Bargain) by 1867 based on the ages of his children. Hugh dies 13 Jan 1882. In the 1880 census he is called a Lock Tender on what I think was known as the Tidewater Canal. He also says his parents were born in Pennsylvania. His widow Rebecca married Daniel Rowinsky 17 Nov 1885

I think Hugh is in the 1860 Lower Chanceford census as Hugh Patton Burkhalter. He is living in a Burkhalter home but he is not a Burkhalter. He says he is carpenter 28 years old born in PA.
