George Dando Farmborough 1806

I am looking for information about my Great, Great Grandfather
George Dando. He was born in 1806 and married Elizabeth Bridges (1812-1866) in 1831 in Farmborough, Somerset. I know they had at least 15 children although several died either at birth or in infancy. His son Joseph (1846-1920) was my great grandfather and he married Elizabeth Branch (1850-1901) on 25/12/1865 in Farmborough. They were all Coal Miners and lived in the Hobbs Wall area of Farmborough. I cannot find any information about his siblings or parents and am also stuck on the Branch and Bridges sides of the family as well.
Does anyone know anything that I don't know!!!.
Thank you
Wendy

Wendy,

Some info on Elizabeth Bridges and her ancestors.
I'm using three sources of info. Civil registration,
census records and Church records.
Civil registration for her child Elizabeth Dando only.
Census records for Farmborough, 1841 and 1851 only.
Church records for all other info, my online source is: http://www.freereg.org.uk/

In this, I'm making some assumptions to tie together loose ends.
Perhaps additional sources/research will confirm/revise this.

Thank you so much. I did have some of the information, but you have taken me back so much further. It is amazing, I have put this query on several sites and not had a "whiff" of any information about poor old George (Dando), I have been given some details about Elizabeth Bridges, but nothing about George. He seems to have been born under a "gooseberry bush".
Thank you again for your help
Wendy

The freeREG source doesn't seem to have an entry for the birth of George Dando nor his marriage to Elizabeth Bridges in Farmborough. Perhaps the microfiche of Farmborough parish records has additional info. I hope to look at that at some point.

Maybe that would clear up uncertainies about Elizabeth Bridges ancestors also. For example, I cant find a birth record for Anne Salmon in Farmborough in FreeREG.

If you don't already have the following, here is census info from 1871 that shows George Dando and his daugther Patience living in Wales. She is married to Abraham Martin, which is her second marriage and his second marriage.

1871 Census
Civil Parish Trevethin (Monmouthshire, Wales)

Many thanks Bob.
I have the marriage of George to Elizabeth Bridges, they were my great great grandparents, my great grandfather was Joseph Dando. I have 15 children for them!!
You say "our" George, does that mean you are related as well.
I have thought that George's father could have been George Harvey, but there is five years between his birth and their marriage, but I notice that they only married a short time before the birth of the next child Louisa!! And I would have thought that he might have changed his name to Harvey if George Harvey was his father.
Best Wishes
Wendy

Wendy,

I'm pretty sure Elizabeth Dando b. 1844 is my great great grandmother.

It's interesting that George and Elizabeth Dando named a child Louisa Harvey Dando a year after Louisa Harvey died at age 20. Some family tie there. Either a younger half sister or a younger sister?

If you want to contact me, I'm at

I can share what I have about Elizabeth Dando b. 1844.

Hi Wendy,
I think this family belongs to me too. I am descended from Mary Ann Dando (b. 14.1.1848 Farmborough d. 22.1.1921 Clutton Somerset) Joseph was her brother.
She married John William Perry and had 8 children. Their 7th child was James Hedley Perry (b. 19.4.1881 Clutton d. 17.4.1928 Cwm Monmouthshire)This was my Grandad.
If all of this is of interest I have more and a photo of James and Mary Ann.
I'm interested to see that Mary Ann had so many siblings I haven't found many at all.
Regards Jacky

Hi Jacky
Thanks for your posts. I had down that Mary Ann Dando died aged 16, but I could easily be wrong, especially if you are convinced that George Dando and Elizabeth Bridges are the parents of Mary Ann Dando. Would you like a copy of my gedcom, I could send it to you via email? Maybe we could do a swap? For a long time I was unable to find anything about George Dando until someone suggested that he was base born and that has given me a bit more information. It would be great to compare information.
Yours Wendy
