I am searching for information on James Tyner or Tiner I have found records that spell the name both ways. My James would have been born about 1820 it is believed in South Carolina or Georgia. James traveled west, he married in Shreveport LA., he settled in Texas in 1858. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

My grandfather was born in Brinkman, Greer co., Ok in 1910. His name was Walter Vernon Tyner. His father was John W. Tyner. I've been told that John W. was full blood cherokee. I am researching the cherokee heritage. Are we related?
