City im Preussen vs. City, Preussen

City im Preussen vs. City, Preussen

How does the General Keying Standard regarding using commas to separate multiple geographic levels (such as "City, County" or "City, State") apply to German records that use "im" or "i/" instead of commas or separate fields?

In other words:

* Should "Reichenbach i/Schl." be keyed as "Reichenbach i Schl" or as "Reichenbach, Schl"?
* Should "Sonnewalde im Kön. Preussen" be keyed as seen, or as "Sonnewalde, Kön Preussen", or as "Sonnewalde, Preussen"?

(I don't have an example handy where the "... im Preussen" form really *is* the proper full name of the city (a la "Frankfurt am Main", except with a kreis or kingdom name instead of a river), but given the history of German town-naming, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few of those out there, especially in the former eastern provinces.)

I don't know the answer, but "Furth im Wald" might be an example of a town name that includes the word "im" in its full name.

We have discussed this before and came to the conclusion:
- if it says Reichenbach i/Schl we key it like that.
- if it says Sonnenwalde Kö Preussen, we key Sonnenwalde, Preussen.
- if it says Halle a/d Saale, I have keyed it as seen.

We do not key the words Kreis, Grafschaft, Fürstenthum, Königreich or the abbreviations.

This is how I have keyed all these

I thought this had come up before, but couldn't find it.

So, to make sure I understand correctly: If "i/", "in", or "im" is present in this situation, then key as seen and don't insert a comma; otherwise insert a comma. Correct?

Also, since we do not key "Kreis" or "Königreich", do we key "Kirchspieles", e.g. for a location of "Kirchspieles Sülzfeld"?
