I've recently obtained the Catholic marriage books for both Brome and Shefford counties (including the city of Granby) if anyone would like a lookup.

For Granby, the parishes listed are:

Notre Dame (1844-1970)
Ste Famille (1929-1970)
St-Benoit, St.-Joseph, Assumption (1948-1968)
St.-Luc (1960-1968)
St.-Alphonse (1875-1967)
St-Eugene (1941-1969)
Ste-Trinite (1958-1968)
St-Patrick (1963-1968)

For the rest of Shefford County:

Milton (1846)
Stukeley (1846)
Roxton Falls (1850)
Valcourt (1854)
St-Valerien (1954)
La Rochelle (1857)
Bromont (1859)
St-Joachim (1860)
Waterloo (1865)
Roxton Pond (1873)
Maricourt (1893)
Racine (1906)
Bethanie (1916)
Lawrenceville (1922)

John, this is a long shot for me because I believe this couple was Protestant, but I would love it if you could check for me anyway. I'm looking for the marriage of James Williams and Mary King/Roy which would have taken place in 1863/64 according to his obit and the 1900 census info. They were supposedly both of Granby. I've been at a dead end for a while in trying to find the parents of either one of them. My clues are that James Williams (on the 1900 census of RI, USA) gives his father's birthplace as Canada and mother's as Ohio. One other clue is that I believe James had a sister Harriet Williams who married William Roeder (also of Granby). Harriet was two years younger than James, but I don't know what year she might have married. Thanks for your offer, it is very kind of you. Patty in RI

There are several early Catholic Williams marriages in Granby, but I don't know if they belong to your line or not.

Catherine Williams, dau. of John & Josette St-Onge
married J.B. Larrive, 31-1-1848 DAME

Joseph Williams, son of John & Josephte Saintonge-Paien
married Aurelie Peltier, 20-5-1844, DAME

Lony Williams, dau. of William & Lilly William
married Frederick Mitchell, 21-1-1888, DAME

There are pages of Roys listed in the marriage books for Granby; but I don't see any Kings. I would need a little more specifc info on the Roy names to check the listings though.

In the rest of Shefford county, there are no Catholic Williams marriages except very late ones (mid 1900s). There are also a lot of Roy families in the rest of Shefford Co.

John, Wow, thanks for getting back to me so fast and thanks for the info. I don't know if they will connect to my line, but maybe one of these marriages will lead me to some info that will unlock the mystery for me. Don't worry about Roy. I think I can do some more checking on this end. Supposedly Mary King/Roy had a brother who also came to the USA. Thank you again, I appreciate your help. Patty in RI

John -
I would love it if you could look up a few Picard marriages in Granby. Jean-Baptiste Picard and Lucie Provost were married sometime around 1870 but I don't know if it was in Granby or before they moved there from another part of the province. Also, if you can find their sons Auguste Picard (bride's maid unknown) probably around 1890, Joseph Picard (bride's first name Georgianne) and Jean-Baptiste Picard, who married Dehlia Brunelle. Whatever information the book gives would be deeply appreciated.

Do you have a marriage for a Roland Burnham and a Juliette Marquis. It would have been in Granby I think and in a catholic church. I have a Roland in my tree and would like any info you might have, Thanks Roger.

There certainly is.

Roland Burnham, son of Clifford & Nancy Warden
married Juliette Marquis, 25-10-1958. BEND
dau. of Ovile & Alice Patenaude

There were a lot of other sons and daughters of Ovile
Patenaude and Alice in the book as well.

The listing for Roland Burnham is the only one in the Granby book though. I'm not sure what the BEND refers to unless its St-Benoit. No Burnhams in Shefford or Brome Co. either.

You can get a bit further back in your Marquis line though.

Shefford County Marriages

Ovile Marquis, son of Moise & Josephine Fortin (Granby)
Angeline Patenaude, 15-7-1924, RACI
dau. of Didace & Marguerite Bessette

In Granby

Moise Marquis, son of Moise & Palmire Therrien
married Josephine Fortin, 10-1-1898, DAME
dau. of Joseph Fortin & Azilde Ferland

Joseph Fortin, son of Chs. & Marcelline Forand (Adamsv.)
married Azilde Ferland, 21-8-1877, ALPH
dau. of Ls. & Emelio Charest (Dorchester)

Wow! Just wanted to say thanks, John. That was more information than I had hoped for. I didn't expect to find Jean-Baptiste and Lucie. I think they married before moving to Granby. Thanks so much for your generosity.

Hello John

Would be interested in any Chicoine/Shequin marriages that you might have in those books. I have a William Chicoine whose death certificate states that he was born in Granby,Quebec but does not state his parents name.
Thanks,
Ann-Marie
