During the American Civil War (1861-1865) there was Federal Army unit made of immigrants from Norway, Denmark, and Sweden: the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, known as the Scandinavian Regiment. The link below leads to a web site dedicated to Colonel Hans C. Heg and the soldiers who served in the 15th. The web site is designed to help persons seeking information about relatives who served in the 15th. The site includes copies of the regiment's official rosters, which list the names of all the officers an enlisted men who served in the unit as well as information about where they were living when the joined, when they joined, and a little bit about what happened to them in the 15th. Also included is a history of the regiment, a bibliography, and several dozen profiles of individual soldiers, many including original photos of them. About 90% of the 15th's soldiers were from Norway.
