Looking for Mannix relatives in Illionois

My grandfathers name was Francis Marion Mannix. He and his brothers and sisters were put on an orphan train in the early 1900's. I know my grand fathers oldest brother was John Mannix and died in the war at age 19. One of his sister was named gertrude, but the others I don't know their names. My grand father was in illinois when the orphan train stopped. He was taken by the Alvey's and they raised him but never adopted my grand father. But they were so good to him my grand father crossed out Mannix on his birth certificate and wrote in Alvey. Back then I guess this was legal. He then married my grand mother beulah Vanway in Illinois and had 5 boys and 1 girl, now all Alvey's. I have been curious to the blood name Mannix and was hoping someone may be able to see if we had a connection in the family tree. My name is Craig Alvey, I named my first son Steven Mannix Alvey trying to keep our real blood name alive in our family. Thanks in advance for the help.

Can't really help you, but my family name is Manyx. There seems to be several variations in the spelling and the name is also the same as Minogue in Ireland. I have never been able to find out just how that worked.

Anyway, my grandfather (Michael) and his brother (Patrick) came from County Clare Ireland about 1854 as teenagers and located in the Schuyler/Brown counties of Illinois and a brother (John) remained on the east coast. I have never been able to find any trace of him, except I have family letters which indicate there was contact with him in the late 1800's or early 1900.s. I thought with all the info on the internet I would surely find them, but no luck. No luck in USA or Ireland.

Good luck to you.
