Are you aware of "The Berryhill Family In America"
published in 1982. This book has a Benjamin Berryhill
but I do not think it is the one you are researching.

My wife was a Berryhill and is listed in the book.

Hi Laura,

Benjamin Franklin Berryhill was my great-grandfather.

He was born 2 Jan 1846 in Buchanan County, MO (as a result of the forced relocation of the Creeks from GA, the "Trail of Tears."

His first wife was Zena Ann Cooper, with whom he had Elizabeth (B. 1870 in MS), Mary (1874, MS), Lucy (?, MS) and Ida Estelle (1880, Buchanan Co, MO)

Ida is interesting, because the famous "Glen Pool," the largest Oklahoma oil strike up to that time, was found on her 160 acre "head-right" that she received as a result of the Dawes Commission settlement of Creek claims (circa 1896).

BF later married Mary Alice Ashford and had Walter, Clem and Roby (my grandmother).

Hope this helps, write if you need more.

Bart

Hi Bart - we're related!! I haven't really worked it out yet but I think you might be my (1/2?)gr-uncle.

Benjamin Franklin Berryhill is my gr-gr-grandfather. His daughter, Elizabeth was my gr-grandmother and her daughter, Birdie Ray Crosby was my grandmother. I have been STUCK!, as far as Benjamin F. Berryhill and Zena, for a long time. Any more specific info. would truly be appreciated.

For instance: Do you know anything more about B F Berryhill? I didn't know he was part of the Trail of Tears. I remember my grandmother showing me pictures of her relatives in full tribal dress but do not remember who she said they were. Do you have dates or know where Zena Ann Cooper was born, or who her parents were? Or when and where she died? Also, when did B F Berryhill marry your gr-grandmother, Mary Alice, and where? And do you have dates of birth and places for Walter, Clem and Roby. Do you have more info. on Mary, Lucy, or Ida (is Ida male or female?). Etc., etc. My question list could go on forever.

I am SO excited to finally find someone who knows something, as well as I am related too. My grandparents and my father are deceased so there aren't any info. avenues left for me as far as geneology goes. Any sources and any info. that you have I would love to have. Thank you so much for your reply!! My e-mail is: butlin@dellnet.com. I do not have your e-mail and would like to have it if that is alright with you.

Thanks again!!

Just letting you know that I have visited the Twin Mounds Cemetery where B.F. Berryhill is buried. On his tombstone is b. Jan 2, 1845 D. Dec 30, 1896. He is buried next to Ellis Crosby son of Charles and E. Crosby. I suspect Elizabeth. Hope this helps.
