My Greatgrandfather was Ernst Ottomar
Friedrich. He was born in Germany (Altenburg)
in 1842. Died in Milwaukee, WI 1896. We
believe he served in the Civil War. Ernst
Operated a knife shop in Milwaukee from 1877
until 1896. His children were Oscar,
Frederick, and Sophie (my Grandmother). I am seeking
information about branches in our family
tree. Jean L. Schultz East Aurora, NY

My ggrandfather was Henry Friedriechs - 1880 census or Friederichs - 1990 census. Various members of the family use Friedrich(s), Friedricks, Fredericks, Fredricks, etc. Henry was a saloonkeeper in Milwaukee in 1880. He born in June 1848 in Prussia and immigrated in 1871. He married Mary Dieckhoff(?) and they had a son Henry Anton F(take your pick). I don't know what happened to Mary, but his second wife was Bertha, born in March 1854 in Germany. They had 4 sons: Oscar J "Arthur" Friedrich, Julius, Siegmund and Frederick. Oscar and Julius were born in Wisconsin. Siegmund and Frederick "Fritz" were born in California. He moved to California between 1885 and 1888, locating in Santa Barbara County where his occupation is listed as shoemaker. I am the grandson of Henry Anton F(whatever). Looking for a connection to a Julius Friedrich born 1887 - married to Emma Beuker - I think Julius was born in Russia.

Surnames: Friedrichs
Our Julius was born in 1885 in Milwaukee. If you find your Julius' father, I would be interested. I have accounted all our relatives in this country unless Julius' father (Henry, Heinrich) had siblings. In all of the multiple (mis)spellings of our name, I have never seen it without an 'S' on the end. These message boards come and go. Please record my email number so we can get in touch when new info surfaces. Jon Fredricks hiphoptwo@bigfoot.com

Surnames: Friedrich Friederich Friederick Fredrich Frederich
"My Greatgrandfather was Ernst Ottomar Friedrich. He was born in Germany (Altenburg) in 1842. Died in Milwaukee, WI 1896."

His family placed a death notice in one of the four daily German papers published in Milwaukee in 1896. It's important to consider all spelling variations of this surname: Friederich Friederick Fredrich Frederich etc.

Indexing started in 2007 and continues today.
"Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
