Found a letters among my aunt's belongings that were written by David McCarthy in Oct., 1969. The return address is Maglass, Ballymacelligott, Co Kerr, Eire. Letters were sent to my aunt in the US, Astoria, NY, indicating he was was ok and so was his father. Also indicates that he was working on the farm.
