I have been able to track my family back to my great great grandfather Julius Karrasch who came to the United States in 1873 from Germany, but I can't find the ship he came over on and none of the census records I can find tell me what town he lived in in Germany. His wife's name is Augustia and they were married the same year he came to the U.S. so I don't know if it was in Germany or in the U.S. If anyone can help me try and find some information, I would greatly appreciate it!

Evidently they married in Germany before traveling to the US. They arrived in NY on Mar 28 1873 from Bremen on the SS America. The surname is spelled Karash, Julius was 22, Augusti was 21 and there was another traveling with them whose name I cannot make out, 16 years old. They were passengers 113 to 115. Don

Thank you so much! Do you know if there is any possible way to find out his parents names? I'm not sure what kind of document I would look for. Most places that I've been able to find a birth certificate are in German and I can't read them.

I am sorry but I don't think I am qualified to help with that. Maybe someone else may. Don

Try to find the name on www.die-maus-bremen.de
There are Karrasch and also Karasch on the passengerlists.
You can find also their hometowns and when you found the
hometown you have to find the zipcode (Postleitzahl in
German) and then write to the "Standesamt" in this town
to get birthrecords.
